Dresden Files RPG - Dallas

Howdy, I didn't notice many threads on or about The Dresden Files RPG (2011 Origins Best RPG & Best RPG Supplement) and I wanted some feedback and tips/advice.

We start playing next week. I'm first up to bat as GM. Any advice, anybody notice anything odd, and "two cents" comments would be welcome. New system, new setting... I don't have much to fall back on except just "general" GM experience.

This is my first post on the forum though I've been part of Obsidian Portal for a while. My Horn of the North campaign was featured a long time ago as a featured campaign of the month from way, way back, but I haven't done much actual "game running" since. Hope to get back into the saddle with Dresden.

That'd be great. We don't plan on doing much in Cowtown at first, the focus will be to the east at first. That said, one of our "Threats" is out there (and one of the PCs is in Bedford) so eventually we'll be out that direction as the game wears on.

If you have any ideas for interesting locations/threats/NPCs I'd love to hear them too. It might be fun to come up with something from H.E.B. connected to Tongan mythlore down the road. :)

I like the look and the pic of the gamers dorkness rising made me laugh. I love that movie. overall i like the look and the style and am considering placing the cut and paste formatting page to my website for my players to add stuff as well. Good Job

    Thanks y'all.

IIRC this was the site I used, rather than hunt and peck to rebuild my CSS as escape characters.

Well we played our first session. Still getting the hang of the rules, but much fun was had by all. Due to the narrative style of the game engine, we barely rolled dice (which suits our group's game style).

And our second session concludes. I should expect player updates and NPCs to be posted shortly.

I was wondering if I could get "gut reaction" to a new Dresden monster template I worked up.

In the books they don't talk much about The Jade Court... so I took it and ran with it for an upcoming storyline.

    Any and all feedback welcome.

very nice. One of my favorite monsters from the old ADAD Fiend Folio was the Penanggalan and you did it up real nice for Dresden.
    Appearance is awesome
    Formatting is top notch
    And the details are perfect.

    good work overall

the jade court you have drawn up looks pretty good, opens the door for a claymore:"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claymore_%28manga%29" style halfsie like RCI's for jade court or adding more mortals to the bloodline. :)

Seems fair enough (although my lack of knowledge on the mechanics of the Dresden RPG makes it difficult to judge). Legend of the Five Rings (an asian RPG) uses the name "Pennaggolan":http://l5r.wikia.com/wiki/Pennaggolan

Also if you want I can get your the D10 system stats for the creatures as well it would help you in any way....

*****SPOILER ALERT for Dresden Files "Changes"******* Have you decided if you are going to incorporate Dresden's **fight** with the Red Court?

Heh. I've never understood why here we prefer to use the Phillipino/Indonesian name when southeast Asia's names are soooo much shorter and easier to type. Of course I learned it as ?????? when I was over there but that's NOT easier to type.

Re: ***** Spoiler alert for Dresden Files "Changes" *************

We're strongly leaning towards deleting Harry Dresden from our world. He just leaves way too big of a splash radius in both the Fae courts, red court, and so forth (as well he should, as he's the focus of the novels, but the PCs are the focus of a tabletop game)... also that lets us not have Chicago be the epicenter of everything and move things around a bit more.

We're going to leave our game in a state of war between the Red Court and White Council (as it's good for what we need/want) at present; though we've not discussed the cause in-game as it hasn't really come up.

I did similar and just kinda omitted harry from my dresden "game":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/florida-goes-bump as well, his impact on the world & relations between various major powers is just too freaking huge to be sure for the players would still feel important. I'm looking forward to "Rumors from the Paranet":http://2d6feet.com/episode-56 (dfrpg book3 supplement) as it's supposed to have some stuff on the post-turncoat/Changes world & stuff with it's massive changes along with some other stuff that Jim Butcher would like to include but is not likely to bring up in the dresden books due to geography differences. Fred Hicks talks about the book a bit in the linked podcast with some other nifty tidbits. It's not officially announced yet though, just mentioned as being in the works in the occasional interview .

I'm looking forward to any supplements or expansions for this game. It's become our group's preferred game.

I am jelous wolfhound that you are running a Dresden game. I would run except my group is always weird about trying out new systems ( I had to bride, coerce and beat them into trying L5R) and I am already designing a city based D&D 3.5 game so it just sounds redundant. I really want to play in Dresden Files game though. I was at a gaming convention this summer and signed up to play in a game but the GM never showed so it got cancelled. I was very sad.

That *is* sad, hopefully next con, the GM makes it.

We're certainly enamored of the system and setting. It's really fun if you've got a group of creative players and a GM willing to change up his/her plans based on what players do at a moment's notice... but even without, it's a blast. it's like the difference between pie with or without ice cream. One's better, but it's still pie either way. ;)

wolfhound hit on one of the things the system has going for it that I've absolutely been loving about running dresden games over traditional structured d&d/shadowrun type games where you have all kinds of stats & such that are important to npcs & make it harder to fudge off the track since players are forced into more of a reactive role in the game. the fate system at use in dresden is freaking beautiful, I can let my players go anywhere & do anything without having to worry about trying to do cat-herding type stuff like d&d.

Yeah... pretty sure now i'm crazy. Added a short story (no other way to describe it) for a webisode. For those moderately interested in Irish mythlore, it's a retelling of the Children of Lir from the point of view of a Character that is actually in the Dresdenverse (slight tweaks here and there).

We also played a game since the last post and there are several webisodes and updates related to that.
