Custom Monstser Counters
June 2011
I love using counters/figures. I find it blends my two favorite worlds (strategy and roleplaying). Combat in AD&D always felt like a hassle, like something you wanted to end so you could get back to the fun stuff. With battle maps, figures an…

Rating a campaign
June 2011
I'm not a fan of having someone visit my campaign site and deciding that I'm only worth a 3 out of 5 when their criticism (or ranking, should I say), was not invited. But that's been gone over before, naturally.

Adventure Logs
June 2011
Here is my general thoughts on individuals who leave D&D at the door once they leave a session: I'm not going to spend hours and hours of my time writing and planning adventures while they do nothing. Having my players write those journals help…

Adventure Logs
June 2011
I let my players write their adventure logs in the form of journal entries. They can recap what happened during the adventure, express their feelings toward certain NPCs or places, brainstorm as to where they want to go next or perhaps just give so…

Being technologically advanced
June 2011
edited June 2011
Technology is a God that all DMs should embrace. All of my adventures are read at the table from my laptop as pdfs, designed in photoshop and written in Word. I create hyperlinks to various encounters, npcs, monsters etc. so that it makes things…

Adventure (A Visual Layout)

Of course I can share. "Template":http://www.mediafire.com/?z9bm85t29vkcmg0 You have to own Photoshop and have at least a basic knowledge of how it works. Although, with a little goofing around I'm sure you could figure out how to edit it wit…

Dealing with Dangerous Encounters & PC Death in Your Campaign
July 2010
I hold nothing back as a DM. I feel, as long as I'm using encounters that are within their XP range, than I am playing by the rules. I will use the tools available to do the most damage to my party. They enjoy the challenge and I enjoy the use of…

Implementing Player Journals, Other questions
July 2010
edited July 2010
Go with the adventure log as your journals, just like everyone else has been saying. It works wonderfully! You will not regret geting your players to participate in the creative process. "Journals":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/govaga/…

Plot, Or therefore lack of.
June 2010
I feel like an overall plot should be necessary. It gives your whole campaign a feeling of epic awesomness and that, put simply, equals fun. Take a good look at your adventures and see how you can string them together. It's never hard to do, sinc…

But does anyone make commentaries on topical issues using adventures!? Haha Let's see, how to fit in the BP oil spill into my campaign . . . Dwarves over-mining and causing an avalanch that kills an entire town?

Plot, Or therefore lack of.
June 2010
Just keep in mind that plot-hooks are never a bad thing and in no way take away from your sandbox environment. It's up to the player to decide if they want to pursue the main story or if they want to go off and do other things. As long as you avoi…

Haha, Firefly is a good source, for sure. My Orcs are the same way. If they are not eating your face, they are having sex with it. (don't visualize that for it will haunt your dreams)

I wouldn't worry about taking stuff from books. Hell, the D&D source books encourage it! All of these references sound very clever. I feel taking characters from books or movies and giving them different names works amazing when generatin…

[Feature Request] A few map requests
June 2010
I would like it if the zoom view background was white, like everything else, instead of that soft gray. That seems stupid, but when you want to make a map that has that old tattered paper effect, it's important.

A question for the DMs
June 2010
I think it will depend on how savy the individual is with a computer. To me, using a computer is just as natural as using a pen and paper.
