Map gets shrunk down
September 2009
I uploaded a map to my campaign today ("Tales of the Black Forest"). I tweaked it all just so, so that a 2000px square JPEG still came in at 451KB. It has a lot of detail still, so I figured that would make zooming in and out or navigating around wi…

Need some polt advice
January 2008
I think, first and foremost, you need the trials to make sense for the religion. They have to follow from their beliefs and imagery. Involving the others shouldn't be too difficult, since religious quests often involve companions, but the importan…

Setting up a site like this for RPG's of all things wasn't your best move if that was your strategy, Micah! :) Signed, Yet Another Web Developer :)

Linking DM and Player Wiki pages

I can guess: just imagine what would follow, with some of the GM-only wikis that might accidentally become public in the process...?

I keep having this problem. You could put the ads last, and then use some CSS positioning to put it into place, that way it will only load after everything else. That's how I handle it on my blog.

Ruby I know nothing about, so I can't really help you there. But ... Hurray! Very glad to know we'll have those basic HTML tags soon.

Is it PHP back there? If so, take a look at the striptags function. That would allow you to specify what HTML tags are OK, rather than what's not. That makes things pretty safe for your cross-site scripting attacks, especially if you're limiting …

_Also, and I could be wrong here, but isn’t textile the language commonly used on wiki sites?_ Nope. I'd say the most common is probably the one used by MediaWiki.

Granted, any PRE tag is fraught with danger, but yes, PRE is going to strip out any other formatting going on. I've been exasperated by the lack of line breaks, too, but I've found that in the most part, lists will generally work even better. From…

Tags would be better than nothing, but the ability to nest categories is one of their chief benefits. You don't really get that with tags, and that makes them a lot less useful for making a nice index of wiki contents.

Well, you can kind of fake it now with links everywhere, but categories would make it a whole lot easier to maintain. For an example, let's say you're like me, running a Forgotten Realms campaign. I write up an article on a village in the High F…

Being able to specify categories in the wiki, the way you can in MediaWiki (Wikipedia), would make it a whole lot easier to organize material in there, and should be fairly easy to implement from a coding point of view.

Yeah, Crystal Ball is Mac-only and d20-only. Works for me, 'cause I'm using my PowerBook for my D&D Forgotten Realms campaign. But other NPC-management systems are hardly difficult to find for the PC, "PCGen":http://pcgen.sourceforge.net/01_ov…

I use "Crystal Ball":http://homepage.mac.com/crystalballmac/crystalball/ on my Mac to keep track of NPC stats. It has a nice "Generate Stat Block" feature that's done wonders for my "Description" fields.
