Dungeons and Dragons 5E Reviews
October 2014
edited October 2014
The code to post a pic is: ! then [Link] then ! I think there is version fatigue. I realize that Wizards is a business and needs to refresh the game to keep cash flow coming in but I do believe that they need to plan better to ensure that they h…

The top pic is new and had not been cropped by me. I have thought about cropping the pic so that more detail could be identified. In the end I believe that showing the scope of the fight was more important than showing individual details. The old…

Dungeons and Dragons 5E Reviews
October 2014
I think its important to realize that the more content that is released for a system the more likely the min maxers will find ways to unbalance the game. This certainly happened to 3.5 but GMs have it in their power to make rulings to put balance b…

I have found that participation is often contagious. If those who are active in the forums make it a point to participate then others will be more likely find something interesting to comment on. We can also make it a point to discuss topics that …

Adventure Hook Thread
October 2014
edited October 2014
A little background for this hook. Well, this is really more of a test of moral fortitude than a hook for your players. Anyway, per the rules of 3.5 an afflicted werewolf becomes chaotic evil in hybrid and human form after failing an increasingly …

I mean to start a post to discuss D&D 5E but have been swamped at work. I found it to be ok. Nothing special, innovative, or new but not bad. I will be sticking with my 3.5 as I have everything ever released for the system and don't really fe…

Adventure Hook Thread
October 2014
The thing about any short adventure hook is that it can easily be reworded/reworked to fit into any game platform or genre. Myself, I almost exclusively play D&D but, when I can get the players, enjoy Shadowrun and Battletech.

Twig, I think we agree with one another. I want you to know that I don't think the Plot Club is a bad thing at all! I just think that a more robust forum would help bring players to the site. If I were a player looking for website options and …

Obsidian Portal Launch Feedback
October 2014
My group still actively uses the website but there is certainly a bell curve to the use. I have 2 players who are on nearly daily, 3 or 4 who are on weekly, and another 2 who rarely log in. Honestly, if none of them used it I would still use the p…

Kallak, Theme 1) How does one hide the OP Dragon above the banner? I can see what you mean about it shifting the focus of the page down. 2) I will review the banner once the OP Dragon has been adjusted. 2.1) I kinda like how the banner gives…

Well, I guess I might as well throw my hat into the ring. I don't really have much time to pretty up my website so I spend most of my time on world content. My players are responsible for the adventure log while I continue to add material to the w…

The Heart and Soul of a Great Campaign

Those are some incredible painted miniatures. I watched his intro video and I MUST HAVE the miniature in the last scene (before cthulhu appears) of the video. No idea what it is but I will find out! I have a collection of many thousands of the …

Oh how I miss Castle Brunhilda. My daughter accidentally crushed it during a course of events that shall remain a mystery. I wish I could find the pictures of the raid on the castle. It was held by a wizard, medium black dragon, and his gnoll goo…

Twiggyleaf, I love that quote. Crafting the story is what is the most fun for me. The hard part is not to show my hand too quickly. I often become overly excited by a plot hook but know that revealing too quickly will ruin the drama of the…

I like a very hands on villain. One who is very intimate with the party. You are right that when the players work together the campaign can really click. I try to imagine my group cooperating and just have to laugh. We have been gaming togethe…

Split the Party? You Wanna Do What!?
August 2014
I have run into this issue a number of times. Back in the early days of Shadowrun Decking (essentially hacking) was an adventure in and of itself until they streamlined the rules with later editions. I have had a number of D&D campaigns where …

The picture kinda reminds me of Tolkien's battle of the Pelanor Fields. Its has the riders on fell beasts, a volcano and a tiered city in the background. "Adoraith: Echoes of Epirus":https://adoraith-echoes-of-epirus.obsidianportal.com/

hmmm...not sure, I did a google search for "fantasy battle" and it came up a while back. I wanted something to represent the fall of a great city to outsiders and thought it fit the bill.

How to get your players more involved

How to get your players more involved
July 2014

I have learned that most of my players are just not as obsessed with D&D as i am so I don't expect them to go crazy but I do have a reward system for them. Players can earn "tallies" for any number of things ranging from showing up on time to …

IL, Springfield: DM looking for a player or two...

I made posts/registered on every site i could find. I typically take the shotgun approach to looking for players since finding someone who will fit in with our group dynamic can be difficult.
