Ok, probably not what you meant.

There are different web-based and non-web-based apps for doing remote gaming. I don't recall the names of any since I never had the interest.

This may be helpful to you:
    OpenRPG: http://www.rpgobjects.com/index.php?c=orpg

    Or this:
    Fantasy Grounds: http://www.fantasygrounds.com/

Also, look at these 2 sites:
    Masterplan Software: http://www.habitualindolence.net/masterplan/
    iPlay4e: http://iplay4e.appspot.com/

After messing with Masterplan for 10 minutes, I was seriously impressed. I don't know if it does any remote connections or anything, though.

Good luck. If you do end up figuring out a solution to your dilemma, please post your experience here for us to read.

The closest thing to bringing people over the internet to a tabletop experience is:

http://www.nbos.com/download/download-screenmonkey.htm to handle map sharing and character/npc placement
    plus Skype to handle voice.

    Rptools is what I use.

Specifically MapTools. It lets you create marcos for attacks, has a chat box (then again, so does everything else posted) and makes it easy to throw together maps in a matter of seconds (they might not be the prettiest maps, but if used in combination with Masterplan, which bepnewt posted, it works out great)

Plus token tools, which can be used to create a token out of any picture for use with the program.
