Put your money where your heart is.

Hey there fellow OPiates,

I don't know if you've all seen the "recent blog post about Child's Play,":http://blog.obsidianportal.com/?p=1342 but that's what this discussion is about. So if you haven't read it, "go do so now.":http://blog.obsidianportal.com/?p=1342

Back? Good. So I had this crazy, and possibly expensive idea yesterday, and I thought I'd share it with all of you: while even the $50 that AutumnsChild (whom I presume to be the author of the post; let me know if I'm wrong, I guess) may be somewhat out of my budget, smaller amounts are not.

Therefore, I am challenging all of you to an online game of poker in which there are no cards, no actual poker, and no winner aside from sick kids.

My opening bet is $10. Call me if you can. Raise me if you dare.

Happy holidays!

P.S. If anyone has another charity that they prefer to donate to, I would consider trading donations with you as well (within the constraints of my budget).

Totally good idea Jon, and I do hope someone (or even better, multiple people) accept your challenge. Unfortunately, I already spent more than my donation budget on the local food-bank...but I definitely encourage all forms of philanthropism. (Hey did I just invent a word?)

Firstly, thanks Pal and I'm glad to hear you're feeding the hungry in lieu of giving toys to sick kids. That's a pretty fair choice.

Secondly, you might be able to claim that you did, if you can get enough people to say it. But the responsibility thrust upon me by virtue of my English degree requires that I point out the following: technically speaking, the word you're looking for is philanthropy. "Philanthropism" would mean the same thing, but uses the wrong suffix.

But that's how you invent new words, just alter existing ones, and get people to start using the new versions.

    Like the word "textses"

As in: more than one text message. Or "texts," as I like to call them. But no... textses seems to be quite popular, and nobody is doing a damn thing about it.

As for Child's Play, I am planning to buy the "Humble Indie Bundle.":http://www.humblebundle.com/

Micah paid $25 for it. I can do at least that. Plus? Games!

Thank you for that link, Dusk, I am drooling now...and I'm at work, which just makes it that much more awkward.

For some reason, I have an inordinant amount of trouble pronouncing my Esses sometimes. I hate saying Texts, and will often resort to "Phone Message" "New Fangled Instantaneous Postal Mail What Arrives on my Phone", or "One of those Message things."

In more relevant news, I too, am in for the "Humble Indie Bundle.":http://www.humblebundle.com/ I'm thankful to you, Dusk, that you brought it to my attention. I'm glad that I could do some good. The games were simply a bonus.
