Podcasts, gaming or otherwise

Greetings again folks,

I'm gonna keep posting. The only way to get more forum activity is to keep posting and bringing in discussions and items of interest.

I was first introduced to podcasts about 4-5 years ago, when a friend told me to check out "Happy Jack's RPG Podcast":http://www.happyjacks.org/ and I haven't been the same ever since.

I'd always thought of myself as a good gamer, but after listening to those guys' sage advice I realized I'd been a gaming douchebag for many, many years. Happy Jack's is definitely not for everyone - they're a bunch of buddies sitting around, drinking beer and talking about gaming as they crack NSFW ribald jokes and belch into microphones. But they give _really_ good advice, and they're very reminiscent of me 'n my buddies sitting around and drinking beer, cracking NSFW jokes...

Anyway, if I haven't scared you off them I give the Happy Jack's crew two very big thumbs up. I especially recommend Season 3, Episode 6 where they discuss a gaming nightmare story that has come to be known as "the Cheeseburger Incident." It's truly the stuff of gazebo-level legends.

I do listen to a few other podcasts as well:

* "Fear the Boot":http://www.feartheboot.com/ftb/ - These guys are much more scripted and edited, but they do provide a lot of good content.
* "Good Job Brain":http://www.goodjobbrain.com/ - A podcast completely devoted to trivia. Great ensemble cast, and highly entertaining.
* "We're Alive":http://www.werealive.com/ - Holy CRAP I loved this zombie-apocalypse radio drama podcast. The initial story has been completed, and they're planning to start up a new series sometime soon. Very well worth the listen.
* Escape Artists, Inc. has three short-story podcasts, all very well produced: "Pseudopod":http://pseudopod.org/ for horror stories, "PodCastle":http://podcastle.org/ for fantasy tales, and "Escape Pod":http://escapepod.org/ for science fiction stories. Between the three, they have well over 1000 free audio short stories available. Great stuff.

How 'bout you?

While it is fairly "standard" for me, "TtheWriter":https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWo7oRI9oM4CXs387kMb56A over on Youtube has some good podcast-style gaming stories. There are some that are meant to be watched, especially once he moved past just tabletop stories, but many can just be listened to.

Also on Youtube, "Demonac":https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRaiBp2xB1LK9_RFPmcj7xg has a GREAT video series called Tales from my D&D Campaign (TDDC), and more importantly, it's so full of detailed plot and lore. With Extras!

I don't actually do many podcasts, I like heavy content over casual, long podcasts. That's a good part of why I enjoyed Haste.

I'm going to resurrect another of my old posts, just to add a few new tidbits (and to fix the broken links).

Happy Jack's RPG Podcast - This is still my go-to podcast for my commute every week. Now they're not only doing a weekly discussion, but they also release a bunch of Actual Play stuff in a broad range of systems. Currently they're playing Vampire 20th Edition, Masks (a PbtA super hero hack), Savage Rifts, a 5E D&D game set in Eberron, and the Moment of Truth RPG. Fantastic stuff.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - This is the hands-down, best produced podcast I've ever even heard of. Dan talks about wars and conflicts, not as a historian, but as a history buff. He does so with both a flair for the dramatic, and a simple honesty about thoroughness and accuracy. His shows only come out 2-3 times a year, but they're worth the wait. Seriously. His six-part series on WWI was phenomenal.

The Shadowvane Podcast - This horror-fiction podcast is produced by a good friend and drinking buddy, and was inspired by the Welcome to Nightvale podcast. We're partway through their second serial tale (with one-shot short horror/suspense stories mixed in). And, uh, I'm one of the voice actors. Full disclosure 'n all that. wink

I've been working my way through Critical Hit, a Major Spoiler Dungeons and Dragons playthrough. Major Spoilers being a comic and general nerd based website. The owner decided he wanted to learn Dnd so he made one of his employees teach him(this was when 4th was new)(Also he and everyone at his table were friends anyway so it wasn't really forcing.) that was 2008? I'm 250+ episodes in and they are 4-5years real-time in game as they play once a month or so and then split the  seasion into a multi week podcast.

Pretty well done. As far as I know, they are still going today(2017, hello future people!)

I remember when Micah and Jerry used to run OP's own monthly podcast.  I used to listen to it religiously!   Alas......

I used to listen to podcasts, but haven't listened any in the past 5 or 6 years. Got the idea for my Deadwood Deacon campaign from the Dragon's Landing podcast, but it doesn't look like they're active anymore.

Also thought of starting my own podcast, but I'm so busy, I don't even spend the time I need to do my crafting vblog much less a podcast.
