I enjoyed American Pie, but Galaxy Quest _always_ wins.
And I utterly *loathe* A Christmas Story, I almost voted against it out of pure spite, and I haven't seen its competitor. But I thought better and skipped instead.

And YES to Shaolin Soccer! One of the best movies I discovered on Netflix. Shame for Joe Dirt, if it were paired against most anything else in that bracket I would have selected it.

If you haven't seen The Ice Pirates, I can highly recommend it. Sci-fi comedy schlock from the 80's, with a surprisingly good plot.

    ...and Space Herpes.

    - Animal Crackers was the first upset, winning 13-3 over It Happened One Night

    - Shaun of the Dead was NOT upset, and won easily over Beerfest 18-4

    - The Absent-Minded Professor was next, upsetting The Great Race 13-7

    - GalaxyQuest took down American Pie 17-6

    - The Longest Yard (1974 film) was upset #3, taking down What's Up Doc? 12-8

    - Dumb & Dumber took down Beavis and Butthead in a battle of the dumbness, 15-7

    - A Christmas Story SQUEAKED past The Ice Pirates 10-9

    - In our first tie, the lower-ranked Coming to America defeated A Fish Called Wanda 11-11 (since the lower-ranked movie has a harder time coming up with the tie - theoretically - the lower-ranked movie wins ties)

    - The Ladykillers defeated North to Alaska 10-4

    - Forgetting Sarah Marshall took down Ted 12-7

    - The Producers squashed the Love Bug 16-6

    - Shaolin Soccer came back from behind to take down Joe Dirt 14-8

    - Every Which Way but Loose stomped Annie Hall in the biggest upset of the round (so far) 15-3

    - Bean took out The Full Monty in yet another upset, 10-9

    - Fletch whupped Ruthless People 15-6

    - and Major League easily defeated the Father of the Bride remake 19-4

THANKS FOR PLAYING, AND THE NEXT ROUND WILL BE POSTED SHORTLY

This set marks the halfway point of Round 1. The rules are simple - in each head-to-head match up, pick the movie you think is funnier. The winner will move on, and the loser will be out of the competition. Each survey will remain open for 48 hours before we move on to the next set.

And here is the next set, Round 1-7:

    - (1927) The General vs. A Day at the Races (1937)

    - (1963) It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World vs. Where the Boys Are (1960)

    - (1973) The Sting vs. The Gumball Rally (1976)

    - (1981) Arthur vs. Strange Brew (1983)

    - (1988) The Naked Gun vs. Overboard (1987)

    - (1992) Wayne's World vs. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

    - (2000) O Brother, Where Art Thou? vs. Scary Movie (2000)

    - (2003) Team America: World Police vs. School of Rock (2000)

    "*Round 1-7 Voting is open!*":https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ML3YR8D

And here is the next set, Round 1-8:

    - (1959) Pillow Talk vs. Monkey Business (1950)

    - (1969) Support Your Local Sheriff! vs. Bananas (1971)

    - (1979) Life of Brian vs. Meatballs (1979)

    - (1985) Pee Wee's Big Adventure vs. Three Amigos (1986)

    - (1989) Parenthood vs. City Slickers (1991)

    - (1996) The Birdcage vs. The Wedding Singer (1998)

    - (2001) Shrek vs. The Sweetest Thing (2002)

    - (2009) Zombieland vs. Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa

    "*Round 1-8 Voting is open!*":https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M9WV6SH

Voting only takes a minute or two (unless you agonize over having to pick one over the other), so please go vote!

I tried out adding the imdb links to each individual movie in the previous set, but I think I'm going to scrap that. That was _really_ labor-intensive and time consuming.

And in that last round came the first (but I'm sure it won't be the last) travesty, in my own opinion. A Fish Called Wanda was WAY funnier than Coming to America. ;-)

    - *O Brother Where Art Thou?* easily defeated Scary Movie 17-4

    - *Team America: World Police* shut down School of Rock 15-7

    - *Monkey Business* easily upset Pillow Talk 14-1

    - *Support Your Local Sheriff!* whipped Bananas 15-5

    - *Life of Brian*, as expected, stomped Meatballs 26-4

    - *Three Amigos* handily upset Pee-Wee's Big Adventure 23-7

    - *City Slickers* also had an easy upset win, taking down Parenthood 20-7

    - In our second tie, *The Wedding Singer* and the Birdcage each came out with 13 votes. As the underdog, Wedding Singer advances.

    - *Shrek* stomped all over The Sweetest Thing (like ogres do) 26-2

    - and *Zombieland* shut out Alan Partridge 28-0.

    Thanks for voting, everyone!

Arsenic and Old Lace, while a good movie, just makes me think of the Runaways comic.

Kingsman as a Comedy? I would say it was pretty serious overall, but it did have some parody/humor to it.

Well, it has as much chance at winning a Golden Globe for it as The Martian... oh, wait.

I can point to the specific head-splodey moment when Kingsman went full-on comedy. ;-)

Ha ha, I didn't even consider The Martian (though it's an award-winning comedy). You're right, I should have thrown it in there just for fun.

I hated that moment, it was the point where it went from good movie to "campy with a bad plot".
