Honestly, even the creators of both shows have, on numerous occasions remarked at the timing coincidence of both shows coming out. They were both great and both deserve praise.

JMS pitched B5 to Paramount before they started making DS9... so I tend to think the similarities are less than coincidental.

What? LeeLous 'bandage outfit' is an obvious and iconic film reference; I know its a little exploitative and sexist, but its ok and in context in this case surely? ;)
