  Your best bet is to submit a bug report- that goes to them. They rarely come by the forums.

  Hello.
  AFAIK you don't have to +set up+ the payment. When you see your 'My Ascendent Membership' page you'll notive fields like:
  |Pay Period: Yearly
  Next Payment: *June 30, 2015*
  Card Type: Visa
  Card Number: XXXX XXXX XXXX 1234
  Card Expires: May 2020|
  
  The Obsidian Portal will try to charge your credit card with next payment on that date if you don't do anything like downgrading to free plan or something. It's auto-magical.

  If you initially obtained your Ascendent status through the kickstarter (like me), then it won't be "automagical". You will need to go to the "My Ascendent Membership" to renew and provide the info to renew, but if I recall correctly, I couldn't see a way to renew until I passed the period and was no longer Ascendent. On the positive side, none of my Ascendent-dependent content was lost during the interim, I simply lost access to editing it. This delay is fairly unimportant if you aren't changing the CSS immediately, using the "player secret" feature, sending email from the edit page, etc. It's also fairly unimportant if you upgrade as soon as you log in after passing the membership period, as you won't see any impact from being non-Ascendent once you renew.
