Well, we wanted to try something a little different... so we started up a Fate Campaign set in the Age of Arthur (from Wordplay games).

We had a lot of fun... fans of our "Dresden Files: Dallas":https://dfd.obsidianportal.com/ campaign may notice some startling similarities between the PCs... intentional. :)

"Age of Arthur - Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum":https://aoa-parabellum.obsidianportal.com/

Our first adventure (direct link) is here:
"Adventure 01 - I Can Send No Man To Help":https://aoa-parabellum.obsidianportal.com/adventure-log/i-can-send-no-man-to-help

Our plan is to alternate our two games per month, one Modern Day in Dallas and one in our Age of Arthur (but with a few ties to Dresden) historical fantasy setting.

Looks awesome. Been wondering why we'd not seen anything new on the Dallas site, and now we know why.

From what you're saying here, and the obvious similarities in some of the visuals for characters, I am really looking forward to the connections between the two campaigns

Well, one of the key Dresden Files:Dallas players/characters couldn't attend last Thursday so we did Age of Arthur instead.

In other news, the Wiki and Character page for the campaign slowly grows...

very nice! How does the system compare to KAP? im not that familiar with FATE. cant wait to see if/how it ties in with Dresden...

Setting wise it is even more History grounded (no boost to Middle Ages during the enchantment of Britain era) - Mallory is much less involved. That said, there are still lots of legendary bits tossed in. I have several lady gamers and they always hated K.A.P. whereas A.o.A. just has a better 'vibe' in that regard.

Think Clive Owen's 2004 King Arthur vs. Nigel Terry's 1981 Excalibur ... which is unfair to the setting as Excalibur is a much better film. I use it to illustrate visual/feel differences.

System wise it is knight & day different... ;)

FATE is far looser with fewer things modeled with stats or rolls and a lot more cooperative play. Of course KAP has years more game supplement support and AOA has 1 book and 2 free modules, so more work for the GM. :(

Luckily everything written for KAP outside Logres is pretty easy to convert back to a historical footing if you do not mind them being roughly 100 backwards in AOA vs KAP.

sounds good. its interesting about the lady players, we have one lady gamer and one fan who sits in, they both had reservations at first, but seem to have overcome that as they get to know the game and see that its 'sexist setting', not a 'sexist game'! Probably helped by the fact that PC wives are so important at court and when defending the homestead so I make each player play the wife of character to their right; makes for some interesting interactions!

mind you, i think Marina has started channeling her inner Neanderthal male, but thats another issue... :)

    Brilliant. Right there. Pure class.

I've had zero success with KAP in that area, none of the ladies who have gamed with us over the years (I signed on with 4th Edition in 1993) have had any desire to play a male character (though I have one male gamer that has opted to play a female - the Erica character). I suspect that because of the more "savage" feel of A.O.A. and less "chivalry" I've already had more traction for this setting/version of Arthurian fantasy in a month than I have in a nearly two decades. It's fantastic that you've had success with it, and your site looks great. Do I see rightly by your campaign map that you're in the East Midlands? I've always meant to go to the Peaks District one day (and of course Sherwood). :)

Our biggest problem is the names... and that's a problem of my own creation. Since I speak Gaeilge myself (Donegal) and know enough Celtic grammar to give Welsh a solid and believable go ... and only one of two of us at the game table that's actually been to England and Ireland. I make the names fairly difficult for my fellow Texans... but they're rising to the challenge admirably. Two have even mastered the "Welsh Sound" (the double L = ll). ;)

thanks for liking the site! still very much under construction, but getting there! you will notice yourself mentioned in the credits somewhere ;)

as for the game, glad you like the 'Ladies to the right' rule, we also play 'squires to the left', which works really well as well, especialy if one PC charges off to do something alone (he effectively takes half the party with him!)

we are indeed in the midlands, its odd playing a game where you can go and look at the real place in the scenarios, it adds a lot to the game.

and as for the welsh names, they are most impressive, i for one wouldnt even try :)
