Spear butt spike stats?

So in my Greek campaign I am trying to accurately make stats for the butt spike common in ancient greece for the rear end of their spears. It was commonly referred to as the lizard sticker, and it was used firstly as a counter weight making their long 8ft spears easier to wield in one hand when fighting in the phalanx, and secondly it was used as a weapon if the primary end of their spear broke. It was quite small and thus would do less damage for certain. It was also commonly used by the rear ranks to stab wounded enemies as the formation advanced over them.

Thus far I have been unable to find d-20 stats for any kind of spear butt spike... I could wing it but I would love to see if there was any versions of it floating around out there to compare.

Use the damage of a spear of one size smaller? So a Medium longspear that normally does 1d8 damage would do 1d6 (like a Small longspear) when using the rear spike.

Or perhaps 1/2 damage of the main spear.

I was thinking along those lines. Something like a size down and then half strength damage maybe? Should there be any penalty to attack or no? I considered giving it stats like a javelin which has a tip about the same size, so for a longspear it would be 1d6 and for a spear it would be 1d4, and then javelins have a -4 to attack in melee, which might make sense because it would be harder to attack with the small point if the spear is no long weighted correctly (from losing the front tip). Im probably overthinking it, im glad you guys are in the same ball park as me on it though :P

I think we decided on doing 1d4 so that i could be used as a backup weapon but with small enough damage that you would still want to switch to your sword
