Cheat Sheet & Tables

I am trying to create a new wiki page but I don't remember how to do tables. The old OP had an icon to click on to see a list of available codes but the new (broken) OP does not have this option when editing a wiki page. Can someone help me before I go into a beserker rage about how broken this "updated" version of OP is?

Scroll down a bit "here":http://redcloth.org/hobix.com/textile/ and you'll find some examples of how to do tables in textile. Basically, use the vertical bar.

    So for instance,

    bc. |In|Theory|These|
    |Would|All|Be|
    |Separate|Cells|.|

    |In|Theory|These|
    |Would|All|Be|
    |Separate|Cells|.|

The page I linked earlier will show you how to align/move things within the cells.

Thanks Thorvaldr. Now I remember the vertical bar. The link is also helpful so I'll be sure to bookmark it. -Ruhar

You can also use a variation, found "here":https://a-god-rebuilt.obsidianportal.com/wikis/table-code

Personally, I am still waiting for a POST REFORGE ability to DROP IN Excel tables. This may just be a PIPE DREAM. But I can still have hope, can't I????

    Man that would be great.

Currently when I do up the realm statistics for my Birthright conversions, I have to screencap the spreadsheet.

I can think of two kludgey work-arounds to do this. First, save your Excel document as a .csv (Comma Separated Values) file.

The easier way: It won't textile your tables, but it will HTML them: "http://area23.brightbyte.de/csv2wp.php":http://area23.brightbyte.de/csv2wp.php Upload your Excel sheet as a .csv (or just paste in the .csv contents. There really won't be any formatting.)

The slightly not as easy way, but it will be in textile format:

    # Paste your .csv text into Word.
    # Go into Find-Replace.
    # Find "," - Replace All "|"
    # Find "^p" - Replace All "|^p|"
    # Put a "|" in front of the very first word.

What are we doing here? First, commas are separating all of our elements in a .csv, so we're replacing them with the vertical bar. Now we need a vertical bar at the end and beginning of each line. "^p" stands for a return in the find/replace dialogue. So, any time there's a return (or enter... whichever, a new line), we're replacing it with a vertical bar, returning, and then adding another vertical bar. There should be no spaces in that replace dialogue. Also, this probably won't put a vertical bar at the very beginning, so you'll have to manually add that one. Make sure you check over your table when you're done.

That's a nice work around, Thorvaldr! I'm going to have to remember that next time I want to make long table.

I use OpenOffice, so my process is very similar. I usually just paste in columns of "|" before and after my content columns, then copy/paste the whole table into Notepad++ and "replace all" the extra spaces. Notepad++ is fantastic, I'm pretty sure it reads minds and figures out how to do what you want. Plus, you can do things like set the default language to CSS and it will color code and annotate your CSS (helps with organizing as you go and spotting mistakes).

Anyway, its tedious work, but on really long tables it saves a lot of time.

    Thanks Thorvaldr

I'll try and remember this page next time I want to institute a table. Your explanation for the code is very cool as well, by the way.
