    If you have any thoughts about the new uploadable campaign banners, discuss it here.

    On a related note, is there anyone who would be willing to make banners for people? There are several of you out there who are amazingly skilled at this stuff, and a few minutes of your time could make a huge difference for art-blind folks like me. It doesn't have to be completely free, either. Just list your names here and what you want in exchange for a banner (money, fame, new minis, fancy dice, whatever). I'll try to compile a list and make it accessible to people looking to spruce up their campaign page a bit.

    Wow!! The new code wasn't up for more than 10 minutes before we had someone post a banner. It's almost as if they had it waiting and ready to go.

    I have very modest graphics editing/design capabilities (I'm more of a coder than a "designer"), as evidenced by "my header image":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/pelosia but I'm willing to provide what help I can if people need it.

    Also, thanks for this code update. I love the custom header image. :)

    Hmm, I uploaded a banner, same image I put in my Adventure Log as a test. The upload worked fine, but when I tried to delete it I got this:

    Internal Server Error (500)

    The server has encountered an error and is unable to fulfill your request. An automated e-mail has been sent to the development team, but we still appreciate any extra information you can give. If you have a moment, please fill out a bug report in the forums.

    I can replace a banner by browsing and uploading a new one but simply attempting to delete a banner gives the Internal Server Error (500).

    I've got no Mad Graphicks Skilz to speak of (I shamelessly steal code from other people to figure out how to put thiings up) but will gladly offer any useless advice or assistance to anyone.

    Also one request: *Micah* can you make the space at the top scale with the height of the image?

    We capped the dimensions at 730x300. It should scale the height correctly (up to 300px) and center correctly horizontally. Can you explain what it's not doing correctly?

    Also, as a sneak peak, we're hoping to roll out a new design soon, as well as provide more custom themes for individual campaigns. Once the custom theming is available, you'll be able to set your own dimension requirements for banners.

    Oh very cool about the custom theming. I guess my campaign banner is larger than 300 px. "G"s can be very long I guess :)

    I just made the one for In To The Dark http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/1142 (sorry i'm lazzy) when I found out about the banner thingy.

    Used autorealm to make the text then edited an image with GIMP to splice it all togather Came out alright but I think I'm going to make a better one when I get time

    Hey Gully: The banner looks great! If I may, I'd like to offer just two suggestions (which you may already be considering). 1) Make the banner wider, you've got 300 pixels to play with! 2) Consider using a different font and/or placing a white (or light colored) stroke around the font.     There, I uploaded the new banner found a font that looked like a broken wall, used the blend feture on gimp to recolor it and paste it to the image, which is now 750 pixels wide and about 150 tall. I still might do better as I work with this but this one will stay for at least a bit.

    Yeah, the text needs to be brought out a bit more. A glow can do this effectively but is considered "cheesy" by some. A simple outlined stroke can work too. I've used a glow for "The Dark":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/shadowfellzero and kept the text within dark.

    I used textures in the GIMP. I might just try a different texture map for the text, a lighter one. I do like how the tiled background came out though, I was trying for a torchy effect on a dungeon floor... You know, like adventurer's delving :)

    I will also try different kinds of glow effects, personally I tend to think that it would look cheesy...

    EDIT: Looking at your image - that actually looks good. It looks more like an outline stroke to me (i'm a graphics newb).

    Just seeing this topic for the first time. To answer Micah's original post, I would be happy to create custom banners for people. Just send me a message on here and describe what you are looking for.

    Check out "Providence":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/providence and "Urm":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/urm for a couple examples.

    Please note... I'm not looking to profit from this, just supporting the community and keeping the creative fires stoked. However, the illustrations under the banners are a different story. I do my own work (traditional mostly), and if you'd like an illustration (color or bw) for your campaign, character, item, place, or whatever you need, it would have to be a commission.
