Totally lost on site design, need help!

So I'm trying to update my wiki to make it cleaner, easier to navigate, and just better looking. The problem is I'm completely new to this and the CSS map is just baffling me. Does anyone have any suggestions of what is a good place to start modifying a wiki and which CSS styles are best to start with?

Try "this post by NinjaFlashX.":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=3057&page=1#Item_23 It contains some great pointers. I started by examining some of Wolfhound's CSS code and researching the rest "here.":http://www.w3schools.com/css/

Also, if you're not familiar with how to inspect code elements through your browser, I'd look into that. CTRL-SHIFT-I works in Chrome and Firefox to get you started, but inspecting code elements may take practice. You don't have to do this part, but I find it helpful for designing CSS code.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

    I wouldn't start with CSS. (I didn't)

Consider using basic tables, various sized headers and bullet points. Have links to subsidiary pages. Insert a few pictures, aligning them center for eye catching, or right for allowing text to flow beside them.

Then maybe change up some of the colors of the headers.

Eventually something you see on another page will strike your interest, and you will research and incorporate that idea.

I wouldn't jump in head first, waters too deep (for me at least).

Best place to start is with WolfHound's tutorials, found "HERE":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/dfd/wikis/main-page
(They're in the middle of the page).

It's where I started. He also has a bunch of template sites, with pre-made CSS you can use.

I started with the original "Help and Tips FAQ":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1114&page=1 and went from there. I highly recommend it and the "CSS FAQ":forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=3057&page=1 as places to start. Then you should check out campaigns you like, many have tutorials in them.

Feel free to ask any questions- we are pretty friendly here!

If you're new to understanding HTML/CSS, I find "this reference":http://www.w3schools.com/ very helpful. Just search for whatever code you're trying to understand and it should provide a decent explanation.
