Hello!

I just have noticed that I've not been as around on the forums as I'd like, and wanted to rectify that! I, as some of you may remember from years gone by, am Rase Cidraen, co-founder of the Dark Queen of the West (shameless plug below).

I wanted to get a feel for how the community was doing, and see if anyone wanted to chat about anything at all!

I look forward to talking to you.

Best,
Rase

You know Rase, I have to say this sounds like a good idea. As one of the other co-founders of DQotW, I remember the by-gone days when we were on here all the time, answering questions, helping develop OP from simple text wikis to all the amazing wikis we've been seeing as the campaign of the month over the years.

Now when I come on here, I see all kinds of names that I don't recognize (with a few of the old timers still around of course). Great to see the torch still being carried!

Welcome back Rase & Gaaran! Both of your feedback has been missed!!
I personally have stolen a lot from these 2 guys! Gaaran's "Fantastinomicon":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/the-fantastinomicon and "Melekar Chronicles":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/melekar are musts, as are all 3 of "Rase's Campaigns":http://www.obsidianportal.com/profile/Rase%20Cidraen
Good to see you both still around.

Welcome back guys, I've been sort of absent quite a bit as well. I have been running a campaign but it's a rather low-tech old-school style campaign for a bunch of bran new players, and I haven't yet introduced them to the Portal. I'm debating as to whether or not I should. I'm leaning on not because several of the players are older and tend not to use the internet all that often, and because I honestly don't have time to do anything with my site at the moment. However it is good to see some old familiar faces around here again.

    Cheers,

The Veep! Sheesh! You guys - it's been forever!

I'm getting on my characters to get the AARs written, but we're a bit more laid back than we had been previously about a number of things - it used to be much tighter when we had everyone on board, but we've suffered some downsizing recently.

Arsheesh - if the players don't seem inclined to use the Wiki, that is a totally sensical decision you're making. Of course, it's sad because I love reading about what's going on in each of the worlds as best I can, but if there's no value in it, or time, then it makes sense.

Anyone working on any fun projects?

    Hi Rase

Dark Queen still looking very cool.
Presently, I am in a slow process of setting up a background for a new campaign to start sometime in 2014.

I wouldn't say there is much happening just yet, and most of the "FUN" is just me learning about Wolfgang Baur's "Midgard", which is the setting I am going to use.
Trying to keep everything a lot simpler than my last campaign......and less epic.

I am finding the Forums getting more and more "techy" and so have been finding less stuff to read, as all the new CSS, API, etc. posts become a bit bewildering, but I am keenly looking forward to the Kickstarter stuff. In the meantime, I trundle forward but am taking it easy - making sure I don't "BURN MYSELF OUT"!

Speaking of Kickstarter stuff, I'm super psyched for the maps and the custom URL features. Not to mention the campaign dashboard. I'm just looking through the list again... I can't wait for all these new features to roll out!

Welcome back Rase, how you been?

I've been reading all the Dresden Files novels, toying with the idea of running a game set in San Antonio, but still mostly focused on the Zeroed game I already started and Age of the Dragons that I want to. Not really sure yet.

Hey there Twiggy! Thank you for your kind words. Looking forward to hearing more about your campaign as it develops.

Yeah, the forums have been more techy than in times past, but I aim to change that!

Saethone, it has been a while! I love me some Dresden! Let me know if you ever go ahead with it, and I will gladly help as I can.

Likewise, Frank, it has been too long. I say we party it up in here!

That ending phrase, Keryth, it sounds like something I should recognize, but for some reason do not.

What sort of things to you guys feel would make your campaigns feel more complete? More player involvement? More content? More time?

All of those things. But "more player involvement" definitely provides the most satisfaction for the GM. In the recent HASTE podcast, the question was asked: "What is the best gift you can give your GM?" They came up with the notion: "Give the GM the gift of YOUR ATTENTION." I think this was nicely put, and very true.

Yes, yes yes, a million times yes Twiggyleaf. That's so perfect. Time and attention is the best gift of all, and is rare to receive because it's so precious. I'm lucky in that Gaaran lavishes attention on the campaign, enough so that his coworkers want to join in, and it's only a bit more difficult to drag my wife around to posting (although sometimes I do need to just set her in front of the logged in page to be expedious).

I remember ages ago there was a 'motivating your players' thread, which contained some interesting tidbits, but it comes down to the player actually wanting to involve themselves.

How's the planning for Mysteria going? Anything fun on that end? Anything you'd like help with?

@Rase- For Twiggy's plan, as well as many of ours, you should hit up the "New Plot Club":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=2927&page=1

As should anyone that is a GM that wants to discuss plot ideas!!

    Just trying to help out.

Hey Killervp - yeah, I'm familiar with the Plot Club - i think one of my GM's is using it at the minute, so I dare not enter. I guess I'm cursed by a lack of specificity today - I was sort of wondering about his plans for the wiki, art assets and similar, to see if I could lend him a hand or two. I haven't done any image edits in a while, and I'm sort of itching to get back in the game.

    Rase-

Keelah Se'lai is from Mass Effect. It's a quarian saying, usually in farewell. Means "By the homeworld I hope to see one day."
I like it, and like it better than my old "Live Long and Prosper" I used to use. Also, Tali says it, and Tali has their Minsc/BG2 tribute lines (which is where my pic for the site is from), so it's also an inside joke (Tali shouts "Go For The Eyes!" in combat to her drone, much like MInsc would yell "Go for the eyes, boo!").

@Rase, since you cannot "HIT" Plot Club, I will just say that it is going quite well. At the moment I am mainly just building up world info for the players. I wouldn’t say there is anything too exciting right now for those on the outside looking in, unless you wish to learn about Midgard, in which case the WIKI is quite informative, but I have just been entering text mainly.

Characters are all set and they look to be a “nice” bunch of folks. I have given everyone a free Bard cantrip and a free PERFORMANCE SKILL and the idea is that they will all be a group of musicians and collectors of “Mysteria” (hence the name). Not geared to start until sometime in 2014.

Thanks for the offer of help. I may send you a short PM to tap into your TECH knowledge.

Ahh, Thanks Keryth! I knew it sounded familiar, and it is quite an excellent farewell. And Also Minsc. Minsc is my favorite.

Twiggy - got your PM, and I'll see what I can do to help you out there. I like the idea of everyone being somewhat bardic - something more campaigns could use more of!
