More Character Headings/Sections

In our games we often end up with many many NPC's listed. The tag system just isn't working for us, I'd love the ability to sort characters into more categories. Right now you can sort characters as player/npc but is there any way to add more headings or just group the characters better? A huge alphabetical list isn't working when you have almost 100 characters.

I guess the alternative is to not use the characters tab for navigation but to maintain some sort of wiki page that groups all the characters. I'm just wondering if there's something better.

    I keep a Wiki page for the characters or rather a couple of them, making lists of people who live in a certain place, all NPCs/PCs of a certain race or profession ect. It's a bit of work especially at the beginning when you create a lot of NPCs, but it's a system that works well, for me at least (but then, I'm a librarian, so making lists comes natural to me).

    In my latest 2 campaigns, I have come up with a couple of different wiki solutions. I too have a hard time following the scores of different NPCs. Depending on the campaign, I have broken them down into groups: "Allies, Enemies, Significant NPCs, etc...":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/shimmering-kingdoms/wikis/characters -or- "Guest Artists, Special Guests, Backup Artists":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/sactown-blues/wikis/npcs. I tend to make things very visual, with custom pix for every NPC on the wiki page, but you could just as easily simplify the idea, using a thumbnail with their name, which when clicked upon takes you to their character page.

    Not all of my characters are posted on the characters page, usually just significant NPCs (and the PC's of course - but even they may get their own special wiki page, depending on my player's preferences).
