    Killer,

Two quick things... I'm not sure why you are only seeing a black background, but there is an image there, and depending on the resolution it should tile over. Second, all of the text sections of the campaign also have a parchment background, again, not quite sure why they aren't showing up for you, however from time to time, I find I have to reload certian pages before either image shows up. Not sure if that's a bug, or what? What would you suggest to do with the Wiki section? I had a very extensive section, and a friend suggested it was to much and to minimize it down. I agree with your assessment that its to little, but not sure where I want to take it. I'll set it back to the other one, and if you wouldn't mind, drop me a PM with your thoughts on it would you, please? Also, do you know what I would need to include in the coding to get the nav bar raised? Thanks as always for your input!

    Now backgrounds working.
I suggest livening up the wiki with pics for links, or symbols, or some such- just plain text on background is dull. I think that there is plenty of info on it- just needs to be livened up.

As requested, a review of Cernig's and Langy's "Edgerunners":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/edgerunners As always, my opinion, not gospel, just suggestions....
*Start Page-* This is the best integration of a background into a site on all of OP in my opinion... Having a slight color change for the internal type is awesome! Also love the mood it sets. The choice of the gold/copper and white are also really well done. You can tell this was thought out on entry, and it shows. Side bar is crisp, and fits on a laptop screen. I also like the framing of the pics. The only question I have is if you are not going to use the forums, why have them? Just put li.forum{display:none;} in your css and be done with it.
*Adventure Log-* The logs are as dark as the setting. Pics indicate the writers of the interludes (or at least who they deal with). I hope that you can get your players to write some logs from their point of view, as I always feel that it adds so much to the game and story. They are really good logs here, and on my read list (How many times can an Edgerunner team change the plan?- awesome)
*Wiki-* Unique and very cool. I would move the index of pages internally, but the octagonal pic links are great. I would add Langy to the credits, as I know he is in charge of the CSS here. The Dead links in the Navigation section are a big drawback- perhaps put in GM only until done? I would rename the character link in the wiki to character creation or something like that- most will click and think it is taking them to the characters page. Overall, great wiki, and continues with the themes very well. Lots of very good info.
    *Others-*
Characters- The white character sheets are really jarring after so much grey!! Good info, and some good backgrounds (Wormwood is creepy)
Items- One of the best Items pages on OP- lots of them, with details- well done!

*Overall-* Really a frontrunner for a COTM and one of the leaders of the CSS movement. I personally have added it to my top 25 in my personal profile- this is great work! Just needs some dead link cleanup and a color change on the character sheets. Great work!

Thanks, KillerVP. We're actually in the middle of a re-organization on how the pages will be looking - the new design includes a 'footer' navigation block at the bottom of each page, along with the two sidebars. That's primarily so that you can navigate the wiki properly when using a small screen like my smartphone where the sidebars won't fit. You can see an example of this on the main Wiki page or the Characters pages. We're also in the process of updating many of the pages to utilize the new CSS and all, and still haven't finished that off, which is why there are so many dead links in existence around. I have no issue with 'dead' links that *show* that they're dead, and think they help give readers an idea of what we're planning for the future, but ones where you can't tell that they are dead are very, very annoying.

You've got a point about the forum - we haven't used it at all, really. That's not because we consciously decided to do so, we simply haven't needed to. Might be good to have a forum thread that's a sort of log on what's been altered/added to on the wiki recently, though. We'll think about it.

And yeah, Edgerunner teams can change the plan a *lot*. I'm keeping the next mission plan (I'll be GMing the one after the current one wraps up next week) rather loose just to account for that.

I'm not sure the index needs to be moved around; it's already effectively on its own page, after all. We'll look into moving things around. As I mentioned previously, I like having the red dead links in the index and on the sidebars; they give the reader an idea of what we're planning on doing, and they mean we don't need to go back and edit a whole bunch of pages every time we add a new page. Yeah, it makes it clear that everything isn't finished, but I see that as a plus rather than a minus. Once we're solidly finished, then we can start making sure no dead links still exist.

Me and Cernig were just discussing changing the 'Characters' part of the wiki to 'Character Generation'/'CharGen' or 'Runners' the other day - we'll probably roll that out over the next few weeks, though it'll mean changing just about every wiki page. Very annoying, but something we're just going to have to live with.

As to the character sheets - yeah, they are a bit jarring. I've been planning on looking into making campaign-specific styling for the dynamic character sheets, but have been a bit too busy in the past few weeks. Of course, for that to work out best we'd need to move the other character sheets over from GCS image exports to using the DST, and I have no plans on forcing the players to do that.

We're not quite ready to actively campaign for COTM, but we're planning on getting there in the next few months. We'll be gunning for ya, COTM - just you wait and see.

Thank you, killervp - for the kind words and the great suggestions on improving the "Edgerunners":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/edgerunners wiki. We've put a lot of work into this already and there's still a lot of work to do - as those red links on the page index show. Langy's been the code guru and the look of the wiki is entirely his work. I agree he should get credit for that on the Credits page and I've told him so. I've been mostly writing setting fluff so a lot of those red links are mine to complete - and with my first stint as game GM ending next week with the wrap-up of the team's first mission I'll have time to exapnd the setting pages 'sideways' instead of hurrying to stay one step ahead of the players' storyline. Many of those pages will be filled over the next few weeks. I think I'll also expand the adventure log summary post to include player-written interludes: little vignettes of story that happen 'off-screen' in the game but for which players get bonus cp when they write them and which really add depth to the storyline. Again, many thanks!

    regards, Cernig

    Hail all keepers and dungoneers,
I´ve set up a basic scenario set in the 1980´s. The game system is Call of Cthulhu - modern.
Theme is John Carpenter´s "The Thing":http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084787/

    The game´s url: "Antarctica 1983":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/antarctica-1983

The game premise is that Station 10 is caught in the aftermath of the ending of Carpenter´s storyline.
We join the team as four of the station´s personnel return from a vacation.

So, is this looking anything like "good enough"? I´m new to the formatting of Obsidian Portal and am
happy when I successfully get a picture to appear in a post...

    Happy for any input.

    /Dave

Hello everyone. Wow, what fantastic work I am seeing here. I love what you guys are doing, and I am as always, inspired to see new work here. I love reading the feedback, and am taking the advice you give on other's pages, reflecting on my own work. CSS... My eyes are crossing when I think about the new CSS availability. Can I say "OVER MY HEAD"? I doubt that I will incorporate it into my existing Crimson Skies work, but I might. (not that I don't have enough to do as it is)

That being said, a little over two months ago, I started working on a new campaign - Fate/Dresden Files RPG, which I call

    "*Sactown Blues*":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/sactown-blues.

I would love for you to take a gander, and let me know what you think. We have played 4 sessions now, and I finally got the gist of my layout, with a few different visual themes, based on the nature of the information (find the 2 hidden easter eggs on the main wiki to see what I mean). I renamed all my tabs/links to fit the genre and THEME of my game (the theme of music is integral to both the campaign and the web site). I had to do some tweaking to get what I wanted, including going offsite for a few pages. If anyone knows a way to add code for a music player on OP, I'd like to know. I am stymied, hence using an outside website for my characters.

It is still a WIP, and there are a lot of pages that lead to boilerplates and empty/Under Construction pages. I am filling them as I am able. I am bugging my players weekly to give me write-ups but they are busy and have not sent me anything (despite the bribery of fate chips). My New_Arrivals page is where I post links to my latest additions.

Thanks for giving it a look-see. As always, any advice is respectfully received.

    Regards,

A review of Syrinx "Antartica 1983":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/antarctica-1983 As always, my opinion, not gospel, just suggestions....
*Start Page-* EEK- I opened in half screen and the sidebar is over your page. Change the alignment. I would make the green pic of your sidebar the whole background- that way Organizations does not creep over the edge- and it is way better than just black. Also the background info should not be on the start page, especially the character creation info- make it a wiki page, and tell us about your game as a story.
*Adventure Logs-* None whatsoever, and the only one is moving elsewhere.... so curious why I am doing review?
*Wiki-* Maps are the only thing on the wiki page? Only 1 map on the maps page? Confused- you should make a wiki link for maps.
    *Others-*
Characters- No real bios. Standard DST sheets.
    Items- 2 rules, no items

*Overall-* You seem to have a cool concept, but it is hard to tell from your page.

Phoenix, it's not a true music player, but you can embed Grooveshark links, like we did "here.":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-dark-queen-of-the-west/wikis/music

Otherwise, I don't have time for a real review, other than I really like what you've got going on with the layout, it's a slick design.

    Thanks for the check-up, killervp.
Not being a wizard on this board I had trouble putting things together. As a user with a free account I couldn´t create a forum.
    That´s enough of excuses.

Now, to what I can do. I will edit the pages according to the advice given.

I´ll see if I can edit the sidebar to cover the background. The wiki will hold the background, rules etc.
The log was used as a forum substitute. Alas it lacks the function to edit posts.

The maps will be moved to maps.

While moving the forum to an external site, I´m keeping this page at Obsidian as a front page for my campaign.
The logs page will hold updates to what happens in the game.

Once again, thanks for the time you took to look at it and give me feedback.

I would love if some of you would go check out my first day of work on "Decline of Dragons":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/declineofdragons my open-world ASOIAF RPG campaign, set in the Westeros of 179 AL, one hundred and twenty years before the events of A Game of Thrones.

We have a mature, thematic, character-driven style of play I find that you will enjoy. As I build the wiki, I will talk more about my GM style, build the historical events that take place, and add the war maps as they are drawn upon. I enjoy an image-based and vivid campaign as well, so feel free to guide me toward reserves of art I can use.

I have several adventures already done that I need to edit and add, but I think the plot and character in "Three Masks" is a perfect introduction to our style. ENJOY!

Please, comment, PM me, Fan my campaign, or any other way you would like to contact me with some feedback on the work we are doing, and the fun we are having.

Hi all, my DM was hoping to get some independent eyeballs to look at our campaign, "Rise of Asmodeus":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/greyhawk-636-cy-the-rise-of-asmodeus . Since I'm the code monkey, I got volunteered to post this. :)
I'm fairly pleased with the look of it, but wasn't sure if someone might have some suggestions on how to integrate more multi-media stuff. We just started embedding grooveshark tunes for character themes and have been debating doing the same thing for adventure logs where appropriate. I was thinking a playlist page might be fun too. Let me know what you think!

@SerYohnRisley, sounds like a really cool campaign. Some things I noticed off the bat, though:
You might want to consider creating a custom banner for your campaign -- something that will help set the tone for your content.
The adventure log was great, but a bit hard to read. If it's going to be that long, try breaking it up into sections using either the headers or at least a bolded headline. Since you've got a lot of dialogue, maybe bold, italicize, or even underline people's names to help designate who's speaking.
Since there's nothing in the wiki, I can't really say much yet. Character's look good and I really liked your idea of using the map section for a family tree. That's a fun one. You could even use the map tags to put in links to different characters or NPCs that way!
All in all, some good content, but a bit of tweaking on the layout and design would give you another jump forward.

A review of Madartiste & Davidnic's "Rise of Asmodeus":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/greyhawk-636-cy-the-rise-of-asmodeus As always, my opinion, not gospel, just suggestions.... Sorry it took so long to get to this- was in Canada on vacation last week.
*Start Page-* Good banner, background, and CSS- Nothing that says amazing, but really solid. I love the opening text. Gives a great feel for the game without being too detailed. Also not busy or going too many places- great job!
*Adventure Logs-* I like them. I like the parchment- but don't understand the white bar on the 2 most recent logs. Well written, informative, and seem to be written by a player or 2. Enjoy the varied fonts that change with the speakers- very cool. Nice work overall, and adding to my reading group.
*Wiki-* Love the book- would put it on some sort of background, but like the book idea.
Would also add a background for the wiki pages as well. The Locations, Gods, and Historical Events pages all lead to a new book- cool. With those pages, would add back buttons (for example, hit locations then Elmshire- Elmshire should have a back button to go back to Locations. Your quotes are very short, and the maps and fun stuff just leads to a tag page.

Personal Logs- EEEEK! First one I pushed was an error page (Qui Yue) and the next one was just a tag page. Turns out that most players have not done personal logs- create a reward system that encourages it! Create a wiki log page that actually links to the posts- Here is an "example":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/a-god-rebuilt/wikis/character-logs

    *Others-*
Characters- Fairly standard, have short bios- better than most sites.
Items- Nicely done, with pics, descriptions, and backstories.
Maps- Some good book maps, it appears.

*Overall-* This is truly a great site! Solid all over! Will be watching you!!

Thanks so much, KVP! Your feedback is really helpful. I hope your vacation was awesome. :)
Just to note: The white bars are due to the Grooveshark embed being wonky lately. I may end up having to remove that if it doesn't fix itself.
Also, I totally hear you on the personal logs... We haven't gotten everyone on board with the site at the moment, but I didn't want to leave out the people who haven't written anything yet. Luckily, two of our players are amazing writers who I expect to start adding things soon. Once more people are into it, I'll take your advice and make some kind of page that links all of their logs in a less ugly way than the tag page.
I like the idea of a back button on the Wiki pages! I'll have to put that in for sure.
Thank you for taking a look! You've given me some really helpful advice and great suggestions.

Prepping my next campaign right now. I´m keeping a sort of unicolor design from my first game. I managed to tweak the backgrounds a bit and it´s still early days,
What do you think about the concept?

    "Tears in rain":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/brtest

I made the front page to be like a "good bye page". End titles from Blade Runner and a "come again" neon sign.
A blurb about 2019 and the Rep-Detect division.
One tab leading to the ESPER case files. (The files not there yet.)

I went with the dystopian background from The Origami Killer in Heavy Rain. In BR, Gafff fiddled with Origami, so I think it´s a close fit.
And managed to make the backgrounds opaque and delete the borders in the tabnav.

A couple of months into using the boards actively, I´ve started to see how things are done. You all have been a great help in pointing me in the right directions when I´ve had trouble doing something simple.

My question is really, does the site have a Blade Runner feel to it or did I miss the mark?

    /Dave

The video and the background definitely... the banner not so much. Also the esper on the side bleeds into your page on smaller screen sizes, like a laptop. Love the neon sign.

    Thanks for the comment, Killervp.
I´ve not seen many pages with opaque background. I think it´s quite nice.

Hmmm, I changed the banner to a more appropriate one. Went for red letters instead. True BR-style.
    Same link as before.
    Fells more unified.
Now, for the content... I got a couple of months to get this up and running properly. Feels great to have a place to host it.

    Hi Lord Ao,

First: congratulation for the Deeper Darkness! I'm a fan of the old Night Below, and your work is awesome! In my opinion, the web background is perfect!

After that, I can speak for what I think are only details:

    * I should prefer the navigation tab merged with the campaign banner (the banner will be ending with stalactites)
    * Some pages seems plains compared to the fantastic wiki main page (who is clean & effective ) : the alignment page for example, you should use image for each link; you should make tables for the critical page... etc.
    * One complain for the wiki main page: the bestiary levels and elements master full pdf seems to be submenu of the credit icon. You could catch it because is already present in the first page. (and the bestiary levels link is wrong, it's the same as the element master)

I'm sorry, but I didn't look at every pages, they are too many of them... and excuse my english...

    Great work!

    @Darko_1

Went to the site intent on doing a review, but noticed that it's really (REALLY) bare bones at the moment, just characters and a few logs. That said, here's the best I can do for a "review" with what is currently available.

*The Bad:* Certain (glaring) portions of the site are still default, which - given that there are six log entries, sort of gives a bad impression. Having no campaign banner is kind of huge, since it's right there on every page. Next is having the stock welcome message wiki main showing. Need to just create a genero "welcome to our campaign, here's a bit about the world" type message. ANYTHING would be better than the stock message. If you have ascendant access, maybe even display:none the wiki tab (since evidently you guys aren't using it?). Finally, and I'm sure this is just an oversight, the stock "welcome to your adventure log" is there as the first entry in the logs (doh). Nothing screams "delete me!" quite like that. Should also try to find or create images for the various items. Lots of items is good, but less so if they all have the sword/board generic icon. There's also a lack of handy hyper linking in the adventure logs. Should go back and link to item/character pages where appropriate, it would certainly help out.

*The Good:* I like the comic book image on the main page. I'm of the opinion that you should definitely try to produce a banner in similar style. Styling the overall site (or at least the logs) to be more comic book panel-esque would be pretty cool too. I can't recall any campaign on the site with that theme, so I think you'd be able to set yourself apart with that. I also like the character trivia tidbits, and the writing has a definite attitude about it, which gives the campaign a sort of theme in regards to storytelling.

Admittedly not much of a review, but it's the best I can do given the available content. Hope it helps.
    All the best,
    - Kallak

Thanks for the honesty! We're looking to beef up the site but Guild Wars 2 seems to always get in the way... Somewhere in the future, our page might start making sense. Until then, we're going to waste time by adding more trivia. If you haven't already done it, some of the character sheets are worth a gander. Thanks again.

I know, I know... My life is on OP, or so it seems.

Some folks who recently moved to my area had seen my my work here on OP. They messaged me and asked me to run a game for them. These folks are really cool, and very involved, and so I decided to resurrect an old campaign. Shimmering Kingdoms is set in a fantasy world akin to the high middle ages. Knights and fair maidens, tower-trained wizards serving lords and kings, a very powerful pantheistic church with great political power, etc. It has been a lot of fun transferring my old notes and maps to OP. I'd love to hear any comments or suggestions you all may have. I'll be adding more as I have time, but I am very excited to revisit a rich campaign world that is nearly entirely of my design.

I would be grateful if any of you great people would care to review my campaign, "Shimring - Faces of Divinity":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/shimring .

(I had hitherto resisted the urge to post this as I know full well my coding limitations and have really created the site to the best of my ability. I will probably not be doing much altering but will definitely take heed of any criticism in developing my next campaign.)

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi Twiggy,
You know I'm a long time fan of "Shimring":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/shimring/wikis/main-page, and I will be one of your first new fan for your next campaign !

There are many many many pages and informations in Shimring, and that's great! In my humble opinion, for your future campaign, you could change one or two things if you want to please me :)

    * Many image with text (like some links, progress chart, shimring timeline... etc.) are fine but too small, or slightly difficult to read... Work with the space on your pages.

    * The wiki's organization is sometimes complex: there are links everywhere on the classic navigation tab, the left tab, the home page, the wiki... For example I could easily follow the last link of each page to get lost:

Home page > Monster defeated > Delve deeper > Characters (not the same Character page as the classic and left tabs links, it's another one) > What it’s all about

But maybe is your choice to make your page as the City of Doors herself, whoever reads can go as he wish and always find new pages!

Here we are, as you can see, I have few things to say.

    Vive Shimring !

    Thanks Pils

I will definitely try to keep things simpler with the next campaign. I will pay heed to your notes regarding images and will definitely try to keep the wiki simpler. With Shimring the Left Navigation Bar was mainly for the players so they could get to the most important pages without having to look through the wiki.

    Thanks for your comments.
