h3. *How to Find a Game to Join Here at the Obsidian Portal*

So you just created an account at the Portal and are wondering, "Now What? How do I find a campaign to join?" Well here are a few tips to help you along. The Portal is home to a host of different RPG campaign sites. Some of these campaigns are played the old fashioned table-top way, in person. Others are online and play-by-post (PbP) games. If you are looking to join a traditional style campaign that meets in your area, here's what you should do. First, you can actively look for campaigns that play in your area by going to the "Games Nearby":http://www.obsidianportal.com/map tab of the Obsidian Portal Homepage. Select the "Looking for Players only" box to filter out campaigns that are full up. Now just browse through the various campaigns in your area (click on the little red markers and a text bubble will appear with a link to each corresponding site), and contact the GM's of any campaigns that you are interested in joining (click the "Want to join?" button located on the right hand of the screen, just below the Party). Second, by creating an account at "Pen & Paper Games":http://www.penandpapergames.com/ (under the "Players" tab), you can be notified whenever any Obsidian Portal games (and non-Portal games) in your area start looking for new players. Third, you can always check out the classified adds posted here.

If you are looking to join an online or PbP game, Kenurion has created a site to serve as a "Compendium of PbP and Online Campaigns":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/compendium-of-pbp-on-line-campaigns looking for players here at the Portal. new campaigns are added to this list periodically. Likewise, you can also check out the classifieds adds posted here.

h3. *How to Find New Players for Your Campaign*

Need more players but don't know how to find them? Here are some tips. First, the Obsidian Portal has a built in method for looking for players. The Portal has teamed up with Pen & Paper Games, combining their player registry with the Portal's list of campaigns looking for players. Players looking for campaigns will be contacted whenever a new Obsidian Portal campaign in their area is looking for players. To have your campaign added to this list, here's what you need to do: make sure that in your campaign settings you have entered in the location info for where your campaign meets, that you've selected the "Publish" box, and that you've selected the "Looking for Players" box. Don't worry, no personal info (e.g. emails or passwords) will be shared, just campaign data. Second, if your campaign is an online or PbP game, you can always add your campaign to Kenurion's "Compendium of PbP and Online Campaigns":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/compendium-of-pbp-on-line-campaigns. Finally, you can start a discussion advertising your campaign right here in the classifieds section of the forums. If you do so however, please be sure to adhere to the Classifieds Guidelines listed below.

h3. *Guidelines for Posting a Classifieds Add*

# Make sure that your add adheres to the "Forum Etiquette Guidelines":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1425&page=1#Item_3
# Advertisements to Commercial sites are strongly discouraged and may be removed at the discretion of a moderator.
# _When posting an add looking for players, please include the following information:_
* The name of your campaign;
* A Link to your campaign;
* A brief description of your campaign and what rules system is being used;
* Whether your campaign is an online/PbP game or a traditional campaign, and if the latter, the general location of where your campaign meets;
* Anything else you feel is relevant (e.g. what specific classes your party is looking for).
* Please do _NOT_ include your personal contact info. These are public forums, personal info is best given out via the Portal's private message system.
* Finally, adds will be removed after about 2 month's time. However if you find players before then, please edit your add to read [CLOSED] (under the "Enter your discussion topic" field).

Thanks and happy hunting!
Cheers,
-Arsheesh

    h3. Addendum: A List of other Player Finders:

    Another useful way to find a campaign or to find players for your campaign is to consult one or more of the many player finders available on the net. There are a number of websites that offer a registry database which you can sign up for which note your gaming interests and locations. These can be a really handy way to meet players in your area. Below I've begun a list of such sites. The list is no where near exhaustive, and if you'd like to add your own favorite player finder site to the list just leave a comment below:

    * "Pen & Paper Games":http://www.penandpapergames.com/: has a players registry which works in partnership with the Obsidian Portal to help match players to campaigns.
    * "RPG Game Find":http://rpggamefind.com/: a site dedicated exclusively to helping gamers find other gamers.
    * "RPG.net: Gaming Gatherings":http://forum.rpg.net/forumdisplay.php?f=21: rpg.net is a large site with lots to offer. In their forums they offer a classifieds add section.
    * "En World":http://www.enworld.org/forum/gamersseekinggamers.php: is likewise a large site with lots to offer. They also have a helpful gamers seeking gamers section.
    * "Meetup.com":http://www.meetup.com/: is a site dedicated to helping people find others with similar interests in their area. There are tons of local gaming groups at this site.

    Thank you for the tips.

    Has anyone had much success with Pen & Paper? Their website looks great, but it has booted me twice now during the registration process and I have lost the will to try a third time...

    YO ;D

    My name's Will and I'm looking to play some D&D; anything from 1st > 1st Advanced > 3rd > 3.5th > 4th Editions. I usually go for Clerics as a class, but I'd also like playing a Paladin, Fighter, or Rogue as well. If we go 4th edition, Warlord would also be great.

    insaneously,

    if you're interested in playing online over a VTT and voice chat, I'm in the process of building a 3.5 campaign via skype/maptool that will run every sunday evening. I have a couple of players so far. Need a couple more. A cleric never hurts!

    I am currently looking to join a play by post campaign, looking to try out new systems, so anyone looking for players should give me a shout. I am partially interested in horror and especially Cthulu/Lovecraftian based systems however, so please please let me know if you happen to be looking for players for such. =)

    Thanks!

    Hi Dusky,
    My Ad&d PBP "Guardians of the Frontier":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/guardians-of-the-frontier is always open to new players. It's a bit of a sausage fest at the moment so I'm hoping the next new players who come in are female in order to expand party diversity.
    I'm not looking to exclude anyone regardless.
    Also, "Kenurion":http://www.obsidianportal.com/profile/kenurion has a great "Compendium":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/compendium-of-pbp-on-line-campaigns listing a good amount of PBPs on OP that are looking for players. May not be quite up to date but still worth a shot.

    Hello, all.

    I am new, and am very interested in Role-Playing.
    At this point, as long as I can experience RPG with PBP. I will join any campaign that would have me.

    Please let me know, Thanks.

    Thank you killervp. I apologize for not posting more. I would prefer to run a home brew dark fantasy campaign using the storytelling system from World of Darkness. I can also run world of darkness games. I am interested in trying out Shadowrun, Hollow Earth: Expedition, D&D Next (I have the files for). As for days and times, I am limited to gaming on my days off which are Monday and or Tuesday afternoon to evenings.
