Hiding you campaign

I love searching the campaigns and seeing what other people are doing on OP. Many times I find inspiration in your campaigns that I can use for my own. What drives me nuts is seeing a recent update for a campaign that catches my eye only to discover it is a closed campaign. I saw one tonight that had me before I ever clicked it. My heart started racing, my interest piqued, and I clicked with the hopes of finding greatness. Instead I got nothing but another moment of frustrations. I wish I could understand the need to close the campaigns. I have played in a closed campaign last year and it drove me nuts not being able to share my thoughts and ideas. What is your take on this subject?

I like the ability, as there are some things that I'd just rather not share. For example, I've got a private campaign at the moment -- it's too unfinished for me to be comfortable letting everyone look at it. (I will be opening it up once I've gotten more information down, though.)

As to permanently private campaigns, I can see where it could be useful -- if one were playing a political, religious, or otherwise potentially contentious game, one might not want just anyone to see it. If one were playing a "play as yourself" game, it might contain too much personal information to let the whole world see it. And, unfortunately, there's also the (hopefully unlikely) possibility of internet stalkers/cyber bullies and other situations where it's better if certain people can't see it -- since you can't block just them, your only choice is to block everyone.

That being said, I, too, am always disappointed when I see a private campaign that looks really interesting.

The first comment _Le Ballet . . ._ received was, "Great map, but your campaign is gay."

So I can understand why someone might want to wait a bit before sharing, or even choose to keep the campaign strictly among friends.

It can be frustrating, though, when something catches your eye.

My suggestion to the Obsidian Portal crew would be to hide recent updates on closed campaigns.

Vulmea; That's the first time I've heard of a negative experience with anyone on OP, which is sort of a weird relief, since I buy into the theory that a prolonged period of time without negative feedback is cause for great concern.

    Still, that was not cool.

I currently have a closed campaign (which I'd link if it wasn't closed :P) because right now I'm just setting up the world and the system for a future game I'll be running.

I think it said a lot more about the commenter than it did my campaign. I removed the comment not because of the feedback, but rather because I didn't want the poor guy to embarass himself further and I didn't want it to be a source of acrimony.

Black_Vulmea: That is class sir, sheer class. To care for the person who has insulted you is a unique and rare attribute. It makes me glad to know people like you are on the Portal.

On a side note, I can understand keeping a campaign private while planning but I figured part of the fun is letting people see the story you and your friends are making. But that's probably just me.

I agree with KenSee. To keep your head during an insult is truly a skill. Great job Black!
