Hello folks,

I thought I posted this last night but dont see it up - perhaps the forum hamsters ate it.

Since I am getting better with Gimp as I struggle along learning it (was doing work on creating buttons) I decided to take a stab at a few other banner options.

I am going to mirror the text in the banner with my buttons so bear that in mind while voting. (I hate you - stop posting on the forums is not a vote by the way.)

Option "one":http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff300/A-G-A/Banner7.png gloss BWF, no glow, glowing runes, centered text.

Option "two":http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff300/A-G-A/Banner6.png BWF in caps, offset, glow effect.

Option "three":http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff300/A-G-A/Banner5.png centered BWF in glow text.

Option "four":http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff300/A-G-A/Banner4.png centered BWF, no glow.

Still a little weak I know, but better than the crap I have up by far I think. Vote and be heard!

I'd say Option one is the best one.

Definitely agree with Morrinn. Option One.

#1 is the best, although I would make sure to increase the contrast between the middle letters and the light part of the background. As it stands, they kinda fade into the background there, which makes it a bit hard to read. (Personally, I'd drop the runes layer to be behind the "Bad Wrong Fun" layer, too, so the runes don't cover up the bottoms of the letters.)

I liked one and two. One seemed to have too much glow in the background as savanna pointed out but if that is fixed it is the best of the lot.

    A "Challenger":http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff300/A-G-A/Banner8.png appears...

Everyone likes 1 so I got to work making buttons based off that then realized urk! ... that text fades out completely against a white background! Here is a substitute loosley based on the design I used in 1 - thoughts?

Better, much better. Use it, the contrast works really well and the text in the middle is as clearly seen as the text on the sides.

I dunno, Banner 8 seems much more blurred and the aspect ratio is a bit dodgy.
    I'd stick with option one.

Well I will tweak it but unfortunately option one is out. The letters are too light use as a background with a white field.

I am busy converting the old buttons to the new text style but basically button's are going to look like "this":http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff300/A-G-A/BadWrongFunGlow.png.

Site layout is going to look like "this":http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff300/A-G-A/MockUp-1.png only prettier I hope. I just threw that mock up together fast so I can have it as an example. I hope to be going With a dual row of player nav buttons below the banner and general site nav for the public on the left. This is assuming that is all achievable code wise. I have no idea since I am not even close to being the half baked coder that I am half baked artist. I have the old style buttons just to display what the layout will be like visually as a cue for the person who will be helping me do the code work. That ugly mock up of what the bar will actually look like will be better and more like the bars on the right.

I need to actually do the buttons now. I have recently been tending to other knitting covering some recent developments. We now have a "News":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/bad-wrong-fun/wikis/news page. On it is a helpful lil blurb about a pretty sweet deal in my opinion if youre interested in RuneQuest or good deals in general.

I have also been dealing with other behind the screen issues for the project as a whole so I am going to turn to buttons with a vengeance now that I am free again as I want to get my user interface updated before the world ends this year.

I am going to try and address your comments regarding the blurriness tho. What seems off Aspect ratio wise to you? I am no artist so I dont see what you seem to.

Thanks, just so you all know I appreciate the feedback.I even worked on the "banner":http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff300/A-G-A/IworkedonitIswear.png!

Now I am done tho and am going to get cracking on these buttons for real.

Anyone have any idea why it keeps moving to the right however? It displays improperly and it is ticking me off...

I submitted a trouble ticket but would like to fix the issue myself if I can ... here is the "site":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/bad-wrong-fun in all its hideousness with its horribly off center banner.

*Edit* fixed my own issue I scaled the banner down a bunch and let Obsidian Portal re-stretch it

I am late in responding but right from the beginning I would have said Option 1 and now that I see your finished banner, it all looks very good!

Quick Question - Do I need to save different sized versions for the different things I want to do with each button?

For instance each button should have a place on a nav bar or sidebar but also as a page heading.

Does that mean I need multiple copies at different sizes of each button I make? Or can they be re-sized when placed on each page? If I can only make one set of master buttons and dont have to make them smaller it will go quicker.

Here is what little progress I have made so far on "buttons":http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff300/A-G-A/GlossButtonsMaster.png for the new banner. I work pretty slowly but now that I have done the page break and back and forward buttons which were much harder for me than text will be it will go quicker.

Not the greatest but decent I think.

I actually wrote myself a little set of instructions on how to do the buttons in Gimp so that if I put it aside for awhile tending to other things I wont forget any of it.

Once I am done with the buttons I will clean up the txt version of it and set it up as a proper pdf tutorial on the downloads section of BWF for anyone who is a total nub like myself and wants to know how to make semi decent text button art. Its pretty easy stuff for most of you guys though I am sure.
