Hah. I really don't. I borrow a lot of time from more important real-life obligations and thrust my mighty imagination right in there.

I was wondering if I could impost on folks to kick the tires on "my renovated OP profile.":http://www.obsidianportal.com/profile/Duskreign If you think your campaign should rightly be listed under Recommended Reading, let me know here. If you find any errors or have any suggestions, let me know. This is the color palette I am probably going forward with when I renovate the "Wyrmshadow Campaign Setting page,":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/wyrmshadow as seen "here.":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/wyrmshadow-renovation-project

Thanks in advance for your time!

I *love* the black/red/white. It's very, very powerful/bold and attention grabbing. The blue/grey/white is great - don't get me wrong - but it's like the difference between somebody knocking on your door and then coming inside vs using a battering ram and doing a dynamic entry. ;)

also - I'm completely humbled that you included my efforts on Dresden and Uncanny. Thank you. :)

I left some comments on site, but I second Wolf's assessment on black/red/white over the blue/grey.

Wolf, Killer, could you elaborate further? Do you mean that you prefer the black background, white text, and red highlights or the white background, black text, and red highlights?

If I gather you correctly, "this is the style you don't care for":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/wyrmshadow/wiki_pages/the-night-sword

I was considering making a few compromises to that style, already. Here are some examples:

"1 - Black background, glowy color-coded text (each campaign gets a different thematic color)":http://cdn.obsidianportal.com/assets/80088/TheNightSwordCompromiseStyle3.png
    "2 - White background, keeping black text-boxes where appropriate":http://cdn.obsidianportal.com/assets/80086/TheNightSwordCompromiseStyle.png
    "3 - White background throughout":http://cdn.obsidianportal.com/assets/80087/TheNightSwordCompromiseStyle2.png

OK, I agree, and I think this is the theme I'm going with. Now, as for the OP wallpaper... "I really like the all-black look shown here":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/wyrmshadow/wikis/the-night-sword but I could also go with the standard dull gray or possibly an all-white wallpaper (which might be too stark, tbh). Thoughts?

Thanks for your feedback, btw. I want to get these decisions hammered out before I get too far into the process of updating everything on the Wyrmshadow wiki, and simple color palette swaps are easy enough at this early state of the project.

For gaming sites I tend to prefer darks... dunno why... maybe because "corporate" sites tend to stay bright/white in the palette. But anyway, my preference of the indicated would be black, grey, white in that order. But the margin of preference between them is nearly immeasurably slight.

I would say that yes, you were correct in the original statement, however, I almost jumped back in horror in option 1- works for a futuristic campaign, but Wyrmshadow is hardly that.
I still think (sorry wolf) that the original color scheme for prophecy was amazing!!!
As far as the redo of the main site, I would choose black, white, grey.... But I am the guy that has multiple backgrounds and themes on my own, so what do I know....

I guess I should be clearer... Prophecy should stay white, Main Site should be black.

No worries VP, I think the world would spin off and smash into mars if everybody always agreed on something as nebulous as personal preferences. ;)

That said, the glowy text over a plain black background was a bit jarring. With red it didn't feel sci-fi to me, but over solid black it did feel "off" ...

... I was wondering how it would look over embedded artwork (background-image:url() in the CSS styling) that was some artwork that had a 90% or 80% black opacity overlay. So that way the glowing red text would look like it's floating over some kind of background image (a la some styles of movie opening credits or whatnot). Just random thoughts.

I can't figure out a way to satisfy my own aesthetic desires without sacrificing something that appeals to someone else.

I guess that's why it helps to have the testbed campaign to help evaluate these design choices before committing to them.

Tomorrow night is session 2 of The Duskreign Prophecy. I'm going to try to get a consensus from my players, but I am confident that I am heading in the right direction.

I've been on vacation for the last week now and it looks like I've missed quite a bit. Overall I like the direction that the new layout is taking. It's simple and sleek. As far as which specific style to go with, well, like Vstray has already pointed out, the final judge on that matter ought to be you. It's good to get take into consider the aesthetic perspective of others whose opinions you value, but at the end of the day, this is your work, not theirs, and you need go with what is most aesthetically pleasing to you. Having said that, of the various styles you've presented, I think _I_ like "this one":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/wyrmshadow-renovation-project the best.

    Cheers,

I'm leaning in that direction as well. KillerVP brought up the idea of having each campaign tweak the theme slightly, and I am dabbling in that idea now.

It is hard to pursue uniformity without it looking bland and boring. Thanks, guys. I'm going to continue fiddling around with this for a bit before making any final decisions. My goal is to put everything in reach, to make it easier for people to follow my wiki, for me to reference data in it, yet maintain a visually pleasing, eye-catching aesthetic that helps draw people into learning more about me, and about Wyrmshadow. I'm getting there, but I want to focus on the important things, not to get bogged down with decisions that are ultimately meaningless in the scheme of things.

I am really happy to be running TDRP tomorrow. Perhaps 5 or 6 hours of gaming will give me the focus I need to get this renovation off on the right foot.

I agree with Arsheesh, Vstray & Wolf... whatever you like best should be the final call. On my personal end, Arsheesh picked the same one I liked... but all of them are great! Hey, the original was awesome enough to win Campaign of the Year- I still think you are mad to change it at all.

"Progress has been made":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/wyrmshadow I feel that I am off on the right foot. There is a lot of work to be done, and some important decisions to make. I am contemplating making a sidebar, but I'm not sure it is completely necessary. There's a lot left undone or done halfassed. All the characters in the official Characters tab have to me commuted (and reformatted) onto wiki pages, then deleted so that there are no links that lead to areas of the site that I can't place my top banner/nav buttons on. I screwed up ROYALLY on my comments section, thinking that the html code to add the top banner to the page needed to be on the first comment, only to figure out (after deleting EVERY DAMN COMMENT ON MY WIKI) that I had a single, stupid MS Word quotation mark in my code instead of the html friendly version...

    Ugh...

    Me too. :)

It's a shame to have to negate the tools that OP has on offer just for the sake of establishing seamless design purity. However, when it's broke, fix it!

You DON'T have to delete all your comments. I screwed up by having an incorrectly formatted quotation mark (just one little thing), but couldn't figure out that that was the problem, surmised that the html had to be in the first post on the comments, and removed all the old comments before realizing my error.

However, I'm thinking of it as a true clean slate. It's a new Wyrmshadow, after all.

KillerVP, use "this url":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/wyrmshadow/wikis/112011 to reference your DFCotM nod, because on the first of every month, a new one goes up on the main site, and the old ones are getting archived (I'll place a button somewhere on the front-page that goes to the previous months' faves, likely below the disclaimer, where all the Under Construction hooey is currently.)
