I've got a post over on my Adventure Log ( "Here":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/fyg/adventure-log/requesting-help ) requesting the following:

Ok, I try to cast music to go with all my NPCs but I'm freaking stuck. I need something for "Hector Cruz":http://www.obsidianportal.com/game_contents/show/3269 but I just don't know the Mexican/Hispanic hip-hop/rap scene well enough to even find an artist to use. So if any of you know some good hard-ass hip-hop/rap that would go well with "Hector Cruz":http://www.obsidianportal.com/game_contents/show/3269 then please let me know.

The reason I'm posting here too is to reach a broader range of help. So, any thoughts?

Any reason for hip-hop/rap? looking at him and his age I would have thought something a little more traditional, are you familiar with Flamenco singing? If you aren't familiar with it, it can sound rather tortured screams.

My brother in law is Spanish, I'll see if he can't recommend and find a clip of a more well known example if you like.

I just think hip-hop/rap fits the character more. Flamenco sounds to refined for him, he's more of a down and dirty, brutal kinda guy.

Just found this quote on brownpride.com:

bq. Then Cypress Hill dropped, and instantly the fact that they were Latino was no longer a matter.

Would the kids on the hill be cool enough for you?

Not sure about refined (the dance side of it maybe), it is at it's heart folk music and often improvised, played in bars and such. It sounds as raw as his face looks. It does have a lot of arrogance to it, which I thought reflected the write up. Isn't hip-hop a little clichéd for a gangster? Still he's your character and "Insane in the Membrane" is likely to be more recognisable to your players.

The general instrumentalization and vocal acoustics of Flamenco doesn't really jive with my concept really. Really, cliché is the angle I'm approaching with him. He's likely to be one of my players first antagonists and likely to bite it fairly quickly. He's not meant to be one of my dynamic characters, but someone who's easily identifiable as what he is. A "Dirty Mexican Bastard". That said, I'm not 100% on Rap/Hip-Hop but thats the general leaning. Some hard southern rock or angry Spanish punk would work as well. As long as when the song queues up you get that feeling of "This guy is shady, Mexican, and about to cut me in half". Hahah

Now, I really like Cypress Hill personally and I'm already using one of their songs for another NPC I have. I'm trying my best to not double up artists but Cypress Hill was one of them that I considered for Hector. The reason of not doubling up is that with Savage Worlds I can have a vast cast of Extras that are generally similar but the Wild Card characters I want to be interesting, dynamic, and unique. Since all these major NPCs are Wild Cards, I want to make sure they all have a distinct feeling.

I appreciate the ideas guys. I'm just at such a mental roadblock for this character, I'm starting to wonder if he's really a good enough NPC to be a Wild Card. Of course, I am my worst critic. Haha.

I would almost suggest something of Ennio Morricone's - possibly one of the themes from "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly"?

    I keep seeing Tucho here.

Ennio Morricone is great but I'm afraid thats a bit to western for my dark future Miami game. Haha.

Look at Firefly! The western themes fit the sci fi elements perfectly... but yeah, if that's not where you're going...

Maybe some kind of gritty Latin techno?

Western themes fit a western-styled sci-fi just fine. But thats not at all the angle I'm going here. If you want a rough idea for the world, its inspired by movies like Blade Runner, Children of Men, Dark City, Escape from New York, Ichi the Killer, & Scanner Darkly and books like Brave New World, 1984, Neuromancer, Snow Crash and most of the aforementioned movies.

Now, gritty Latin techno could work... any suggestions?
