Obsidian Portal as a virtual tabletop

I am new to Obsidian Portal, so please forgive me if I ask a foolish question. Can Obsidian Portal be used as a virtual tabletop (vtt)? I set up a campaign, but can't see where the vtt is located. Many thanks for your help.

Sorry to say Grip, but no OP doesn't have a VTT option. It's more of an organizational tool for table top gaming, most commonly used as a supplement to gaming in person, or with a PbP type game. Might I suggest using Obsidian Portal in conjunction with rptools.net's great VTT "MapTools?":"http://http://www.rptools.net/

Unfortunately not. OP is designed to be a "content management site":http://www.obsidianportal.com/about. However if you are looking to play online in a play by post game and the GM of the campaign has a paid membership then the campaign will have a forum available in which you could centralize all the posts.

Personally I don't use OP _during_ game play because my computer isn't in my gaming room, however the wiki tools make OP *especially* useful during the world building stage of any campaign in a custom setting.

Also its a great site just for reading about other groups' adventures- as well as sharing yours- and the forums are especially nice for tips and ideas. There is a great community here.

Welcome to the Portal and I hope it can be useful to you in some way. (A great way to see its capabilities is to check out other campaigns and see what others have done. Go to the "campaigns tab":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns when not in the forums to do this.)

Ive actually been wondering about that myself.

I dont see why you couldnt use something like skype or ventrillo or something... organize a campaign using obsidian portal, and then mix in a combination of play by post with some 'pseudo live' gaming via skype/ ventrillo etc -- something along the lines of weekly forum gaming with monthly or bimonthly 'live' sessions ? Has it been done here before?

Haha, II'm sure that had been done before... in fact, I'm playing in one that's going to be starting soon with all players from the OP community. Once we get up and going, we'll definitely post links to let everyone see how things are, wait for it.... _Rolling_...

Many thanks guys. I utilize itabletop.com as a vtt because it has chat, voice, and webcam support. I like how Obsidian Portal sets up their campaigns.

Igor, I've been running and playing in games via AIM, Yahoo chat, Skype, Steam, and/or MapTool for the past three years, using OP to manage all the data. It is definitely possible. :D

In case anyone else is interested...

iTabletop is now free to use, with all features enabled. I've been using it for a while, and it's quite good. You can upload large files to your players via the site as well. Now that its free I think it makes a great option, in my opinion better than OpenRPG which is beginning to show its age.

bq. I dont see why you couldnt use something like skype or ventrillo or something...

"Our campaign":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/le-ballet-de-l-acier is face-to-face right now, but one of the players is moving back to Europe when he finishes his post-doc this summer, so we're planning to transition to Skype after that.

I run the wiki on my laptop during the game, and I update the adventurers' pages, reveal new npcs, and so on in actual play, so the players can log on as well and we can all look at the same maps, character portraits, and so on as we play. We don't use a 'battlegrid' or anything, so all we need is a voice connection, really.
