Hi,
I entered into the world of RPG's when I first met my husband about 8 years ago. He is old school D&D and has been playing and DMing since D&D first came out. I was schooled under D&D 3rd edition originally. I have been on the player end all those years. However, recently I have decided to take the next step and try my hand at DMing. I found this site and I am hoping it will help me on my first steps.
Have you looked at 4th edition? I like it for how much more clear the DMG is about how to build encounters that are properly "scaled" to player-party power. Of course, you're married to an excellent resource on how to do so effectively in 3.x, so lucky you. =)
I'm still putting together my first world and campaign, but I'm really liking OP because it will keep me organized and (most important to me) consistent.
