The friends option is cool.

Is there any way you can tell if your friends are actually on the site at that time - something like "Is UserA logged in and they have actually clicked or done something in the last X number of minutes? If yes, show some sort of notification (green tick, or something), otherwise nothing"

Oooh... Just thought of a further extention... You friends list in your "Inbox", so you can easily select them to add to the list.

Both great ideas. I think the friend list in the inbox would probably be fairly easy to implement.
