then you may well want to check out the following online event originally posted here: http://www.spyke.me/god-home.htm

    GURPS Online Day
On Saturday 22 November 2008, the GURPS group at Four Ugly Monsters will be hosting a day of GURPS games, demos and combat online using a number of the Virtual Tabletop programs, such as Battlegrounds: RPG and Fantasy Grounds.

If you've not played GURPS before, now's your chance!

If you've not seen Virtual Tabletop software in action before, now's your chance!

If you already play GURPS online, schedule a game for Saturday 22 November, and join us in the Four Ugly Monsters chat room. If you can accommodate a few more players, or allow spectators, so much the better.

It's short notice this time, but that's OK. Count this as the dip of a toe in the water, to try things out. We'll schedule more of these things as time goes by.

This one is also happening as part of the proposed GURPS Holy Day...
    We need GMs!

For this to work, we need people willing to run games online on the Saturday.

If you want to run a game, and it need only be a short encounter, please register it on the FUM Event Calendar, or email me and I'll add it to the schedule for you. Let us know when you want to start, which timezone, how long you expect it to last, which software you'll be using, and how many players you can seat.
    The Events:

Combat Tournament We'll be running a combat tournament (set on Yrth) throughout the day. You can play on the official server, or run sessions of your own. See the rules for character creation, and download the official Arenas and sample characters. You can also log into the tournament as a spectator to the bouts. Roleplaying is encouraged.
Short Adventures If you'd like to GM a game, add it to the FUM Event Calendar, or simply advertise it through your usual forums: but please let us know it's happening!

So far we have two games scheduled:

14:00 to 16:00 GMT - Bugmen of Venus (in Fantasy Grounds) by Spyke

22:00 to 24:00 GMT (16:00 to 18:00 CST) - Ornaments of Gold (in BRPG) by Ursus
Demos If you'd like to see a Virtual Tabletop in action, sign up to one of the demos listed on the Event Calendar. Note that you'll need to download and install the software first.
    Links:

FUM Event Calendar Events run by FUM members can be listed here, and players can use the calendar to sign up for games. If you want to advertise a game, but would prefer not to join FUM, send me an email and I'll add your event to the calendar.
FUM Chat Room This is a browser-based Chat client hosted by Four Ugly Monsters, providing text chat, together with the options to create private rooms for gaming, audio chat, and even video. We'll use this throughout the day for general socialising, gathering players and discussion of GURPS, the VT software, and FNORD.
FUM GURPS group The GURPS group forum will be the main source of threads for comment and discussion throughout the day (you'll need to register at FUM to post, but anyone can read).
SJG Forum We'll maintain a thread throughout the day on the Steve Jackson Games forum, for those who don't want to register at FUM, where all participants can advertise events about to start, and post notes about games just played.
Battlegrounds: RPG To support GURPS Online Day, Heruca has kindly agreed to make the program free for use for the day. The Battlegrounds: RPG demo will act as a full GM license for 22 November only.
Fantasy Grounds II The Fantasy Grounds demo can be downloaded here, but note that it can only be used with the default d20 character sheet. This is fine for testing the program. Licensed clients can load the GURPS ruleset available here. (Windows only)
MapTool This software is free, and can be launched using a Java web start.
OpenRPG A free program that's been around a long time, but which still has plenty of fans. (Windows/Unix.)
Other VTs Heruca maintains this comprehensive list of the Virtual Tabletop programs and other useful software at his Battlegrounds site.

    Above all, have fun!
