the totally awesome teacher I had in 4th grade, the one who suggested I take a look at Dungeons and Dragons when I got back to the United States... she had us do this year-long continent-simulation for social studies, where each of us had to run our own country... then went on to do Model UN, which is really just live-action roleplaying that looks good on a college application...
