Fix for invisible break tags added before html tables

I've been having a problem on pages where I start the page with an html formatted table. When I save the page, textile inserts two
tags at the top of the page. They're invisible unless I look at the page with the "Inspect Element" feature in my browser. (I also only format break tags using "
", so I figured that I hadn't accidentally put them in.)

I finally put this line of code into my css:

br { display: none; }

It might be a bit cludgy or ridiculous, but it did get rid of the problem.
