Obsidian Portal has no Wikipedia page!

So, I went in search of a list of textile coding and was directed to Wikipedia. I found a list there of groups and/or sites that use Textile, only to find that Obsidian Portal was not there. I added it to the list, but I found that the link led to nowhere! In fact, the only other references I came across on the whole of Wikipedia was from the ENnie awards listings.

Does anybody out there want to help create the Obsidian Portal Wikipedia page?

Now that there has been some involvement in the site again, I thought I might bump this.

Oh wow, I was not aware we had so little reference in that regard. Thanks for bumping this, needs to be on my radar.

Alex, you could probably just lift some stuff out of your OP Review to make a good start on a wikipedia page. And thinking of Wikis, seeing as all of the OP sites are based around wikis themselves, would that not be a good idea for the basis of a structure for some kind of SEARCH INDEX. I am not Mr Tech Savvy, so am not sure if it is too much, but it seems like an obvious method.....

You're not allowed to create a Wikipedia for a person/company when you are affiliated with them. It must be done by an outside party. That being said, I suppose I'm a prime candidate for making one now.

Ahh, indeed, looking it over you are totally correct Jerry. This is not something I can actually address directly it would seem based on their rules.

I'm actually kind of surprised OP doesn't have its own wiki with tutorials and what not hosted here (similar to roll20's https://wiki.roll20.net/Main_Page)

That is one of my plans actually.

Hi Mae, Dread-Jerry and Alex (and everyone else)

im happy to help out with the wikipedia site. I assume as a user I entitled to make the wiki, as I am not officially linked to the company. My plan would be to plagiarise alex_redeyes review of the site enormously and take all the credit.... ok ok , ill reference Alex :)

whats the next step? is everyone happy for Mae, Dread and I to put the wiki page together based on the Alex review (as a starting point)?

ok the bare bones page is up

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsidian_Portal

however I have not used Alex_redeys review after all as I suspect that may breach the wikipedia policies.

if anyone wants to edit the page, create an account and get stuck in :) there is a 'talk' tab which can be used to discuss the page and collaborate on content

be aware it seems there may have, briefly, been an OP wikipedia site before, but it was deleted by "Karl Dickman" as it had "No credible indication of importance (individuals, animals, organizations, web content, events))"

***Edit *** not sure if its a 'refreshing issue' but it looks to me like Mr Dickman has deleted the page again... I will let some time pass and check it again later

anyone who wants to provide factual links to independent sources can do so however (awards won perhaps?)

in terms of the history of the site, we would need a personal interview from the founders to exist somewhere, and then we could site that

update - ok, it seems Mr Dickman did delete the entry almost as soon as I put it in place, I have asked him to re-instate it so that those of us who want to can work on the entry

He didn't consider it an important enough topic to warrant a wiki page without first going through the new page clearing procedure. I'm not interested in getting into an argument with the admin focused super-user so I will just do it his way (we may need his help in the near future anyway!)

also the entry really needs an authoritative potted history for the site. Ive only be here a little while, and so am not qualified to write it. also to get through the Wikipedia approvals it really needs some sort of robust reference. The great reference would be a recorded sound file of the founders talking about the set up and evolution of the OP site.

If this were published on a well supported online site (Dragon?), or better still a hard copy publication somewhere (Dragon again maybe; is OP old enough for that to have happened?) that would be an even stronger reference still.

Here is a link to the video that was posted as part of the Kickstarter. It does not appear to be hosted on YouTube as it is a link to a storage site, but it is still active and works. There is a bit about the history, but it would be considered a marketing video by many so not sure if that would work with Wikipedia's guidelines for sources.

Sorry, no link, it was just a thought since the blog indicates on the side that OP has won multiple Ennies awards.

Here's some google-fu to get things started, I'll try to provide more tonight:

The wayback machine shows a Beta version of the site from 2007 (March 14th to be specific)
    "https://web.archive.org/web/20070314023801/http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/list":https://web.archive.org/web/20070314023801/http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/list
The original workers were from a company called aisleten; where they hosted a blog called "Midnight Oil". It was very popular (cough) with some (cough, cough) gamers.
The first blog entry of Midnight Oil speaks of "Beta invites". The fifth entry mentions Obsidian Portal (in a list of things).
I think the beta tag came off in late 2007; not sure. Wayback doesn't show it after October 2007 any ways.

If the author of Midnight Oil is the same guy as the Ruby on Rails account information says, that would be Micah Wedemeyer From: Atlanta, GA, USA
In this post ("here on the forums":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=4&page=1#Item_0): He introduces himself as the co-founder of the site.

Can't run the interview at work, but the blog has an early interview by the Core Mechanic (see "here":http://blog.obsidianportal.com/the-core-mechanic-interviews-us/). The link there is ... lets call it broken. "This":http://thecoremechanic.blogspot.ca/2010/01/interview-with-obsidian-portal-part-1.html seems to be the text of the interview.

And ... that's all the time I have. More tonight if I can find it.

(Fixed typo in Micah's name.... sorry Micah.)
