Saying hello and also contemplating starting a house-ruled AD&D 2E FTF game in Everett WA

I am new to the computer scene but not the FRPG scene. I have been playing since the late '70s and DMing since the mid-80s. I prefer to DM my own house-ruled AD&D 2E Forgotten Realms campaign. My house rules create a unique blend of 1E and 2E rules that feature high magic and deadly opponents. Although you cannot walk into a store and buy a magical sword, magic is common. Magic potions may often be purchased, and everyone knows magic exists, but few wield it well. I believe in giving the monsters an even break, so the monsters get many of the same adjustments as the characters and NPCs.

I would like to establish the beginning of a FR campaign, with 4-8 characters starting at 1st level. Ideally, I would like to use OP to coordinate the campaign and communicate with my players in a way that I was never able to before. I would like the campaign to meet bi-monthly (approximately every 2 weeks) at one of the local game stores in Everett and Marysville WA. I have reliable transportation and am willing to drive to DM up to an hour each way. Bellevue, Bellingham, and Lynnwood are also viable locations. Providing all of us are over 21, locations like AFK Tavern in Everett could also be utilized for sessions. Other locations can be discussed.

Ideally each session would be at least four hours and may last as long as 8 to 12 hours by mutual consent. I cannot offer a game on a routine day because I work a non-consistent rotating shift. I am willing to co-DM with another if we can make the campaign work.

    Hi StevenAllen

Welcome to OP. I wish you all the best in setting up your group. I'm sure others will chime in and give you links to other places to hunt but once you get started, I'm sure you will find OP excellent for doing what you want and communicating a whole load of stuff to your players. If you become an Ascendant (paying) member, you can use the Site Forums, which I have found particularly useful for my group (we only play table top - no online playing). Otherwise, the calendar is very good for just communicating a few short messages but the best of all is the WIKI where you can store and organise as much info as you like. Sometimes I just send out a group email with a link to new stuff - that works pretty well too.

    Good to meet you,

Welcome to the portal StevenAllen. I suggest you try "Looking For Players":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1527&page=1 . This has links to a number of suggestions, including pen and paper games. I have found players for my game at pen and paper myself.
