October COTM

Ok, so you can fling your negative comments all you will, but I have always only nominated only one campaign for COTM, and stuck by my choice. This month that has changed...
I nominate both Rase & Gaaran's "Dark Queen of the West":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/the-dark-queen-of-the-west and Cernig & Langy's "Edgerunners":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/edgerunners for COTM in October.
Both campaigns are similar yet completely different. Both have GM's (Rase & Cernig) that create great stories, but have turned over coding to someone else (Gaaran & Langy). Both are leading the way in custom CSS, and both of their campaigns stand out compared to others.
Either one is worthy, so I could not choose- and as someone that has learned/stolen from both, I could not choose....
Good luck to both, and to any others I missed....

Thanks, killervp! You should know that your advice and help has been invaluable to us, as has that of several other OP luminaries.

I'd like to wish the very best of luck to Rase and Gaaran, and to any other nominees.

    Regards, Steve aka Cernig

Thanks, KillerVP! I hope my stories wind up being as good as Cernig's - it'll be my turn in the GMing saddle starting next week. We're still in the process of building the site up and getting the formatting/etc. solidified throughout the site, but it's great to know that you feel it's ready for prime-time.

I have to agree that both campaigns are pretty sweet but we cant have a tie so lets try to narrow it down. Whatever GM posts closest to the number I am thinking, without going over, one guess each will get my vote. In the meanwhile I am off to count how many gold fish I can swallow in two minutes. The record is 82.

Dead on, you must be reading my campaign notes. Well I guess my vote is for the magnificent and wonderful world that George Orwell would be proud of, Cernig & Langy’s Edgerunners for COTM in October.

My Gosh! Obsidian Portal is a great place! I had always thought Cernig's "Edge Runners":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/edgerunners/wikis/main-page to have the best Main Wiki Page I had seen since "Morrinn's Tomb of Horrors":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/tohe/wikis/main-page but I was utterly "BLOWN AWAY" by the design of Rase Cidraen's "Dark Queen of the West":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/the-dark-queen-of-the-west . Without even having read much of the content, for pure WOW! factor, as well as a cast of Obsidian Portal heroes, my vote has to go to RASE CIDRAEN! Happy Halloween!

I have to say, I am completely honored, shocked, humbled, scared and some other adjectives to be nominated by KillerVP. I have to say I've always admired Edge Runners, and am envious of their design, content and universe. I couldn't take it as anything but the highest complement to be mentioned in the same posting as they.

You are kidding me Rase- I feel the same about you.... and Gaaran as well. Very impressed at the newcomers sites, like Langy's & Cernig's "Edgerunners":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/edgerunners But for pioneers like you and Gaaran to thank me.... well, you guys started this craziness.....

Rase, Dark Queen is bad-ass! Best use of the Custom CSS I've seen on OP. That alone should warrant the CotM...

Hey, as half of the team that designed DQotW, just wanted to say thanks for all the kind words, the CSS has been a lot of fun to work on, and I've learned a lot in the process! Wanted to thank Rase too for a great campaign so far. If it wasn't fun, I don't think I would've been inspired to put in all that work! :)

That said, I'm a huge fan of Edgerunner's design as well, it even helped me think of a couple things that our pages were missing (you guys inspired the adventure log overhaul). Good luck to us both!

Yeah these are two absolutely fine campaigns, both of which ought to appear in the CoTM hall of fame at some point.

    Cheers,

Thanks to DQotW site and their well commented CSS. Using your code as a base I'm starting to teach myself the basics of CSS.

On the other hand, you introduced me to the horrors of browser incompatibility (IE, Firefox, Safari, etc) and so I must also curse you! :)

I'm pretty sure that my site doesn't work properly in IE, but since most people here probably don't use it anyway, I don't think it's come up :P. We came too far only testing in firefox and chrome to go back.

I think we should pick one to push for October an one for November. They both deserve it. Glad I won mine before the new kids arrived, might not be able to do so again with competition this stiff!

Wish I could outsource my CSS to someone else, but working without it makes it easier for my players, many of them use iPads or smartphones to access OP during our sessions and the CSS mods usually muck up the mobile view.

So, lets pick one and start pushing it.

Loki, I've found that the CSS is actually pretty decently represented on my android tablet, it's when you do anything outside the bounds of the main page that things don't appear properly (because when you move into negative numbers for positioning, that doesn't count for the width of the page). Things like sidebars don't work. Also, I think that BOTH campaigns should win for BOTH months... ;).

Gah! Two of my favorite campaigns! I'm not sure I can choose...
Does anyone in those campaigns have a birthday in October or November? Seems like a fair way to pick between two amazing contenders. :)

Since everyone is stuck between Edgerunners and Dark Queen of the West and a lot of you are having trouble deciding which to go with, I'll put this out there:

Edgerunners is in the middle of a site overhaul, so currently we have a few annoying parts where different pages have incorrect designs/etc. I intend to update them over the next few weeks when I have the free time, but that's not going to be possible before October rolls around. With that in mind, the Edgerunners site is thus going to (hopefully) see a definite improvement by November. Me and Cernig were planning on trying to get Campaign of the Month later on, but at this point in time we aren't quite ready to start truly campaigning for the spot.

With that in mind, if you want to campaign for Dark Queen of the West this month and Edgerunners next month, I don't think either Cernig or I would mind;)

yeah someone should shoot the KVP fella, he is always causing trouble. I am puling for each these two campaigns to win how about one in October and the next in November. Then we will have proven that scifi is not dead and is winning nicely on OP. Furthermore, two months of cyberpunk will just fill me with giggles. You know just thinking about this is making me grin like I just raped my neighbors cat.

Langy's making lots of sense. By November, Edgerunners will be looking _lots_ better. I vote Dark Queen of the West for October.
