What's Your Favorite GM Moment?
What has been your favorite gaming moment while GMing?
I'll share mine to get things rolling. I was running a Forgotten Realms campaign with 4 players and had them exploring an uncharted island. They had met up with a group of Chessentians that were searching for a lost artifact and had traced it to this island. In the middle of the island they happened upon what looked to be a deserted castle. Investigations found that the castle was haunted by it's former inhabitants, the same people that originally stole the artifact the Chessentians were searching for. The party would enter the castle during the day and camp nearby at night.
I used the castle to unleash all kinds of tricks and macabre imagery on the group and while many moments came from those games one that gets me to this day was when I described a scene where the party's warrior was investigating a hallway in the upper floors of the castle during a lightning storm (isn't there always a lightning storm?) Well night had begun to fall and when he looked into a room in a flash of lightning the entire room was shone to him for a second. In the middle of the room hanging from a support beam was a young woman dressed in a beautiful dress, hanging by her neck. He backed away and when another lightning strike happened a few seconds later all that was there was the noose she had been hanging from.
He called for the rest of the group and with the party priest they began exploring the room using torches for light. As they went into the room I got up from my table and began pacing the room slowly (A habit I can never seem to shake). As the priest walked passed a writing desk and stopped to look at a letter on the desk I quickly reached down and grabbed his leg above the knee as I was saying, "You feel something GRAB YOUR LEG!" He literally squealed and his leg jumped off the floor!
The player was my brother in law, a former US Army Grunt...we still mention that to this day!! Great Moment!
