Drama Deck (cards that change the game)

So it has recently been brought to my attention that our very own Stephen Wollett has begun a project that would create a deck of 160 cards that have various effects on the game.

"One third of the cards are plot changers, one third effect game mechanics and actions, and the final third are all social. A Savvy GM will be able to easily remove any cards that do not fit his style of play and still have a huge deck with many possibilities."

Now i don't know about you guys but i think this is an amazingly creative idea with a lot of potential, and i want to get my hands on them. However, they obviously can't do it alone and are asking for donations to help kick start the project "here":http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1452186107/universal-drama. If anybody could donate, or could throw up any advice or comments they have here about the idea i'm sure it would be a huge help in getting this awesome project off the ground and onto our gaming tables!!!

My only issue is the game mechanics and actions section. With so many different dice systems out there (FUDGE, d20, d10 roll and keep, d10 point, etc.) and each one different depending of the actual game that is being played; how will the cards be able to effect such a large variety of actions? Don't get me wrong I LOVE the idea but I am just curious how effective the deck would be. With that said I I am now a backer of this project if for no other reason then I love to see stuff like this actually take off! Good luck to Stephen Wollett!

thats easy the cards do not affect dice with the standard bonuses such cards apply. They affect scenes, characters, and actions without adding bonuses to the rolls. They are for building the story not giving a bonus or penalty to a combat or skill roll. For example.

Card A might improve the treasure found when a body is searched
Card b might make a hostile npc, friendly
Card c might make an npc become romantically interested in the character
Card d might cause the authorities to make an appearance in the scene
Card E might cause a natural disaster to affect the region the players are in
    etc.

and thanks all for the support

Yeah this idea is awesome, plus it adds that sense of reality where things can happen outside the control of even the DM

This is a neat idea. I'm all about involving the players in creating the narrative as much as the GM.

The Fate RPG does something similar, but I think this has several advantages:

    1) It can be plugged in to any game without much fuss.
    2) It encourages players to actually use it because they have a clearly defined idea of what they can and cannot do.
    3) It puts reasonable limits on how the plot can be altered.
