Book of Kendring Campaign

Hi, I've been on Obsidian Portal for a couple years now, but I just turned Ascendant and wanted to promote my campaign.

I'm an old-school GM who used to play a lot of RuneQuest back in the day and became a huge fan of the world of Glorantha. Now I run my own HeroQuest campaign set in the same world, a saga-style game set in the land of Sartar.

Please check out my campaign. It is not pretty: just a vanilla presentation. But I hope you like the content, particularly the adventure logs. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Here's the linky: http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/the-book-of-kendring

Thanks,

- Lee Brimmicombe-Wood

Apologies. I'm new to the forum and haven't yet grokked how to wrangle links.

I hope you enjoy the saga.

All - make sure you check out Lee's hand-drawn and -inked map - it's really beautiful.

Lee, did you also create the banner?

Hi Mike. I was an illustrator by trade before I became a computer games developer (you can see some of my sketches in the NPC section), but I can't claim credit for the banner image. That comes from King of Dragon Pass, the Glorantha-set computer game from ASharp. It's available on iOS for iPhone and iPad and I highly recommend it. It is a saga-style strategy game in which you manage a Sartarite clan. It is one of those perfect little products of obsession, and in many ways a good gateway to the universe of Glorantha.

Hi Percyprune, and congratulation for your work.

I hope you will present more arts & illustrations in the future ! Original art create an original setting (you should visit the fantastic DamienMaster's "Star Wars Roguetrader":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/roguetraders).

Hi Pils. I keep meaning to add more illos, but if I add any, I'd rather they be my own. Thanks to work pressure, special projects and family I have precious little bandwidth, so it's likely any pics will appear in a trickle. I've been talking about doing character art since the summer vacation and sadly nothing has yet happened. Who knows? Maybe this year they finally will.

Ultimately, the adventure log is the thing: the assembled campaign notes. It has already proved its value many times.

Oh, and that Star Wars campaign sure looks sweet. It's the kind of light level of illustration that might be possible if I could find the time.

May I ask the old hands: what is the deal with the Campaign of the Month? I'd be tempted to put my campaign forward for it, but get the impression that only those campaigns with lots of polished art and added geegaws get the nod.

Hi Percyprune. Your site looks great and I thought some of your wiki categories were quite refreshing. Good to meet you.

I don't know as if Geegaws and polished art qualify you for teh CotM (although if you want help with Geegaws, just ask - plenty of folks here have lots of experience with them. Myself, I have a degree in Geegawgery from Obsidian Portal's Online Correspondence School, the Obsidian Lifetime Reeducation Programme for Gentlemen, ORPG for short. My female colleagues have attended A School Obsidienne Ingenuitiv and Fripparrie (ASOIF) and gotten very good degrees there as well.)

...that was a ridiculous aside made at the expense of petty/silly jokes/puns. I hate myself sometimes.

I think selection has to do more with Tone. Not how you're addressing the audience, but moreso how your site *feels*. Is everything consistent? Does the site feel unfinished? What kind of experience are you conveying to the reader? That's always been my take on things - I'm no expert. I've not been nominated, nor do I think I will be for some time. It's just a common thread that I've noticed throughout all of the CotMs, especially the CotYs. They all have a cohesive tone that never deviates.

Thanks all. Maybe I shall work on getting some more pics into the pages before pushing it forwards to CotM.

By the way, there is a twenty-something page campaign bible laying out the details of the clan and the setting laid out in .pdf format. I wonder if this is something I should wikify. The Heroquest Sartar campaigns encourage the GM and players to design their clan, even going back into its distant mythology. Maybe I should cut and paste this into the wiki to give you folks an idea of the richness of the campaign background.

I have quickly converted the campaign bible into wiki text. You can find it under The Kendring Clan header at "the wiki":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-book-of-kendring/wikis/main-page or you can link to the individual pages here:

"The Kendring":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-book-of-kendring/wikis/the-kendring gives an outline of the clan, its abilities and statistics.

"The People":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-book-of-kendring/wikis/the-people describes the makeup of the clan.

"The Clan History":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-book-of-kendring/wikis/the-clan-history gives the mythological history of the clan.

"The Others":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-book-of-kendring/wikis/the-others lists allies and enemies.

"The Land":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-book-of-kendring/wikis/the-land describes some of the features of the clan land.

"The Stead":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-book-of-kendring/wikis/the-stead describes the Blue Starling stead where the campaign begins.
