Interest in gaming over Skype?

I am wondering if anyone would be up for trying this. I am planning on running a pathfinder game this way if I can get enough interest (Only need 4 players).

I game 3 days a week (1 game as a GM, two games as a player) with my old gaming group on the other side of the country (I moved from California to Washington D.C. for law school) using a combination of skype and xbox live (they game in the living room and the xbox camera has a good wide view so I can seem them all easier). If you are going to use skype I recommend one of you buy the premium account so you can use the group video. Good luck on your endeavor and bless the age of technology!

My game is on Skype exclusively! We stretch from BC, Canada to Tampa, Florida, and places in between. I agree with Jaymes- one of you should have a premium account- you can spread the cost of the membership across the group so it is only a couple of $ each person.

Can you only video call with a group with a premium account?

Online only games rock! ...I say this because I've only had one real life group, and they were a bunch of mooks.

_Le Ballet_ is moving to Skype next month. It'll be interesting to see how the experience compares to face-to-face.

One of the players moved home to Scandanavia. The rest of us still here in SoCal will get together in person, so actually it will be a mix of face-to-face and Skype.

We had our first game using Skype today, and overall it went very well. Playing with a disembodied voice felt a little awkward - no visual cues from the player - but it passed pretty quickly. Rather than use a dice roller, one of the players here rolled dice for the player on the other end of the smart phone, which worked out pretty well.

The best part was playing our campaign despite being separated by ten (!) time zones.

As an aside, we also tried a little play-by-email in between our game-days - a short encounter involving mostly in-character interaction without any dice rolling. I'm fascinated by how technology allows us to expand the scope of our tabletop experience while preserving its unique elements.

Black, if you do the premium (about $1/month) you can see everyone... it helps with the visuals...

I game via Skype once per week, but we don't use either the voice or video functions, just the text chat and ability to use plugins (specifically a die roller). Works very well for us.

Have you considered trying google+ and google hangout? Free for up to 10 people - video and audio, and you can make a circle that is just your gaming group and invite everyone with one click.
