Colspan or equivalent?

I'm trying to get a table formatted correctly, and having some trouble. What I want is a single column on the top, and two columns underneath, sort of like this:

Table Title
Col1 | Col2
Col1 | Col2
Col1 | Col2
Col1 | Col2

Colspan doesn't work, I think it's getting stripped out.
I tried using Divs, but they seem to always want to anchor to the left side of the window they're in. Spans don't seem to acknowledge the width attribute in their style.
Any help would be appreciated.

There we go... Finally got that to appear the way I wanted it to.

Anyways, I tried both the textile and the html on my testpage and they worked fine.

Let me know if that doesn't work fo ryou for some reason.

apologies for bumping this old thread but

i'm running into some problems with colspan

after doing a searching and finding these two threads about the colspan/rowspan issues (from a few years back)
    "http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=839":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=839

i was wondering if there was a more elegant solution to getting colspan functioning. is there a workaround for this?

the current page I was working on when i ran into this problem
    "http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/mpc/wikis/axehammaran":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/mpc/wikis/axehammaran
on the table floating on the right, i can't seem to get the header or the image to span both columns..

    thanks in advance
