Oh, and for knowing each other before hand or not, I'm fine with it either way, my character has been traveling all over the region for the past year, helping those in need, doing odd jobs, and righting wrongs, so i could have easily met some or all of you that are pre-disposed to the same ideals. However, before we decide that, Ironhead might want to chime in if he's already got a plan for that :).

I hear you. So how about this: choose a weapon, preferably one that does the same damage as unarmed attacks or less (d6, d4, d3, d2).
Pay for it with a feat/trait if you are not already proficient in it.
The damage does not increase over levels.

Gain: A better critical range. The ability to enchant. Fashion & style.
Lose: Damage does not change over levels. A feat/trait.

that actually sounds pretty good nir, just up to ironhead :)

you're not really losing damage over levels though cause monk weapons don't increase in damage either

We should really figure out a time to start our game I think :). I'm available any time this next week, but I know some people have things called jobs and stuff, so everyone should share their preferred time, and their less preferred but available time, so we can figure something out.

How far out are you guys from actually playing this? Looks like you could use a headstong, "I'm on a mission from God"-type. Kinda weird that I love playing righteous church-types. Got a Paladin concept in mind to participate if it's still an open call. I can fill out the questionnaire if you'd like

I'm fine with that idea for tweaking the feat, guys. Heck, I'm ok with it in it's original form if you want to use it that way. If I can't find a way to balance the field if something starts to seem overpowered, then I shouldn't be a GM ;)

If you guys would rather not work on a group history, you can just use the fact that the Commander of HillHold has put out the call for specialists with your particular skills.

Poutine Paladin, I'd say we're fairly close to having our first session. The only real obstacles are deciding on a time that suits everyone and my inexperience with maptools.

Okay cool. Looks like fun. Hope it all comes together for you guys. Hopefully I catch on earlier the next time something like this pops up on the forums.

Due to the "Job" thing that I've currently got going, if we're looking for some sort of 2 PM EST session, that limits it to a weekend session. On the plus side, I should be capable of extended weekend sessions.

Is there anything I can do for anyone while I'm at work tomorrow?

How does next saturday at 2 EST sound for people?

I can do Saturday 2 PM EST, but only if it ends at 6PM. I have to be somewhere that is an hour away by car at 7 PM.

If proposed session runs overly long past 6PM, I'll have to disappear at that point.

My Thursdays are out pretty much all day. Sundays I can do mornings.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday I am pretty much open, all day / all night, unless something weird comes up.

    P.S. Rilia's Sheet/page is final.

I'm good for Sat 2PM-6PM this week.

Taking a vote for Sat 2PM we have so far:
    Vandor, Gaaran, Me: Yes.
    Rase, Ironhead, Embirsiphone: Undecided.

    We need everyone to have:
    1. Maptools (especially IH).
    2. Someone to guide IH through the basics in MT.
    3. Tokens for everyone.
    4. Modus operandi for online speech.

I'm a bit unclear of whether I've been given the OK or not to choose a rapier for my monk. I'll need to know as I'll make some radical changes to the PC if I can use it (stats, weapons, history).

Sounds like you're green lit for the rapier Nir, just gotta take the feat to use it. I'm available to help Ironhead walkthrough MapTools if he needs it, i've used it a fair amount in the past. Are we going to be chatting or talking for this game? If we're chatting, MT has a built in chat function, if we wish to communicate audibly, then I vote either skype (very easy to use and conference) or the Vent server that either Yoshara or Vandor mentioned. With 7 of us chatting on vent, I imagine it's going to get confusing as to who is saying what, since none of us will recognize each others' voices right off the bat.

If everyone wants to make their own token (or if Ironhead wants to make tokens of character portraits) you can download TokenTool at "rptools.net":http://www.rptools.net It's super simple to use, and makes great tokens for maptools. Speaking of tokens, Ironhead, I have a slew of tokens available for use (I made tokens for everything in the 4E monster manual, plus downloaded a ton) if you want to drop me a message online I can share them with you.

I wasn't aware that maptools had been chosen, thanks for the heads up.

As far as online speech, ventrilo is usually stable. I don't know anyone with a server.

My multiple times, multiple games experience with skype has been that it can run three, but breaks down at 4 or more, and is not worth using at that point. Also,a party with half type (no mic/whatever) half talk absolutely doesn't work.

I'm most used to typed chat, but I'm willing to work with everyone on whatever we can finalize.

I've never had a problem with skype with more than 3 people chatting, done it for starcraft and other online games, but some people have worse internet connections than others. I'd be willing to host a skype call, as I have pretty high quality internet.

If we do typed chatting it will be much easier to keep track of who is saying what, and it's built into maptools.

Typed chatting is a bit annoying/slow IMHO. Personally I prefer a game as close as possible to a real tabletop game. In my current group we use ooVoo for live video conferencing. We used Tokbox (free) before before for VC but switched to ooVoo.

A few suggestions for more things to do before the game starts:
    1. We should check each other's PC's for any mistakes. They do happen.
    2. Maybe start a forum on our homepage that will consolidate all the main points we've agreed to so far (PC creation rules, home rules, etc).
    Anything else?

I suggest that someone other than IH do these things as he has a lot on his plate right now (learn to use MT, plan first adventure, design 1st adventure maps for MT...)

I'm going to redesign my PC now. I'll give you all the heads up once he's done for checking.

I just had an idea that struck me. Instead of changing the monk's Flurry of Blows, why not create a feat that would rather allow all classes to enjoy a similar benefit. It would be a feat similar to Rapid Shot, but for melee weapons. This is what I have in mind:

    Rapid Strike (Combat)
You can make an additional melee attack.
    Prerequisites: Dex 13, Weapon Focus.
Benefit: When making a full-attack action with a melee weapon, you can attack one additional time this round. All of your attack rolls take a

Did a quick check through all the PC posted so far. Please check:

Tyson: your CMB should be +5 (not +4)
Syana: CMD is 16 (not +16, just a typo). You have Diplomacy as +11 (I worked it out as +9). Race: Aasimar - are they in the Pathfinder books?
Aurek: HP should be 17 (not 19. When you rage you'll have 19 though).
Lark: AC should be 13 (not 14). Touch should be 13 (not 18). Flat footed should be 10. CMD should be +4 (not +3). You have punching dagger listed as an off hand weapon even though you don't have two weapon fighting. If you intend to fight with 2 weapons, you should consider taking this feat, cause the penalties without it are atrocious.

Nir, you have the go-ahead on the rapier. I'm interested in seeing how the character of a monk using one will unfold. Also, that feat looks fine to me. I'm very flexible on these things as long as they aren't an "I Win" button; especially since this is the beginning of the campaign and we'll have time to gauge how they work early on.

Gaaran (or any of you, for that matter), I'll be available all day if you want on Yahoo Msgr if you want to talk about maptools or tokens, or whatever.

Gaaran, Your winning lottery numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, and Francis. Your chinese word of the day is "Tuesday", pronounced "Tuh-ooze-dae".

I think I can easily do 2PM on Saturday - I'll even be able to be around earlier to help out/learn maptools/etc. I've never made a token before, so I'm curious as to how everyone is planning on doing theirs: I've only ever done the Portrait as a Token thing.

I'd be all for voice chat, but unfortunately my gaming locale is surrounded by a noisy family, and as such I can't really use a microphone for it. I know that everyone else might want to use it, and if that's the case, I can try and make it work, but I do know that as a bunch of strangers, it's going to be hectic and confusing when people try and figure out whose voice is whose, who is doing what. I've been text chatting for as long as I've been around D&D, and sometimes I feel like I can type what my character would do better than I'd be able to say it. Additionally, it provides us with a cheap and easy record of what has gone past, which can be very handy, especially when running a wiki.

Nir: Thanks for catching that - I knew my HP was right at 19, but I couldn't figure out how you got 17 until I realized that my CON wasn't reported properly. That's fixed now. (12 base HP, +6 from CON, , +1 from 1st level Favored Class = 19)

Likewise, I'll be available all day on Gmail, with periodic interruptions.

There is always Tokbox instead of regular skype/gtalk, etc. It makes it easier if you can see the people you're playing with. Anyways, we'll only be strangers for the first 30 minutes. hehe.

I have made a grand decision: instead of trying to squeeze a swordsman out of a monk, I'll play a swordsman, or swashbuckler (from tome of Secrets) to be precise. I'm going to be busy for a while. Keep you posted once he's done.
I'll also start the forum for all our house rules that we came up with so far.

That makes much more sense than trying to start with a monk Nir :P.

As far as video conferencing, we'd have to make sure that everyone had a webcam, but we should wait and have Ironhead weigh in on that one, see what he thinks.

And thanks for the catch, I reallocated my bonus points for stats, and forgot to change my CMs. my CMD went up one too.

And Ironhead, I haven't seen an invite for being a Co-GM to see if it will unlock the ascendant features (like the forum).

Speaking of unlocking things: I have unlocked some of my ancient caches of stored HTML knowledge and unleashed horror upon the main page. Perhaps it would be best to fill out the wish list page so that my furious coding can be better directed than whatever I feel like cobbling together on a whim? (I do better work when I'm being directed... :P )

*Edit:* Additionally, I haven't got a webcam at my current residence. It got lost somewhere when I moved and I haven't had time to get it back yet.

*Edit:* *Edit:* Also, my HTML-fu was a bit rusty, so gaaran came in and saved me by simplifying things :)

Hey everyone: I'm attempting something new with Aurek, to get a better feel for how he behaves as a character, and I'd love your input. On my character sheet, at the bottom, I have a rough image gallery of some of his equipment, so it's easier to see what he's bringing to bear on the situation. But I can't decide on a Greataxe 1 or Greataxe 2. Does anyone have any suggestions? Ironhead, what do you see being used by the northern cultures?

I have to say i think your guy would use an axe more like a bardiche, especially given that you describe it as being used as a support, as you carry it while walking. I guess, from those images you've supplied, they seem a little small to be called greataxes (granted they don't have a scale to really judge them by). That could very well be my bias from playing video games and such, that all greataxes must be large and double-bladed :P.

It's true - they don't have the scale of the Greataxe of yore. I like the idea of a "bardiche":http://www.oocities.com/trassgar/graphics/bardiche.jpg like this, or alternately, a "Greataxe":http://www.swordsswords.com/images/products/detail/Azan_Double_Bladed_Decorative_Battle_Axe.jpg like that one. Perhaps the one on the left in "this":http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bd/Bardiche.jpg picture. How's that do you?

that first one was actually the one i found when i was looking, and i think it works quite well. the greataxe works well too, it looks big enough to serve as a 25 lb. walking stick too :) why did bardiche bring up so much anime on google image search is what i want to know? :P

I've missed quite a bit then again I have been painting a room the last couple of days... that and playing never winter.. If I could throw in my two cents I think the initial meeting thing is sort of fun, that way we can get a feel for each other... I've had quite a few hilarious ones... one where a fight was started by someone and abandoned when another player joined the fray... it was pretty hilarious... It always helps to have a common goal we're working for...we could just be hired mercenaries or something...

It's awesome to see Poutine interested ^_^

I've got no webcam as well... I know people who have them but probably aren't willing to share....

We could just scrap the idea of the video conferencing if it's too much hassle to get a webcam. We'll need mics though for speech.
BTW, did we decide on what we're using for speech yet?

Embirsiphone check out my posts earlier regarding some fixes on Lark's sheet.
