Hello and Advice

Many congratulations on winning the Ennie. After seeing you beat Paizo, we had to come and have a look at something beating the best. (Yes we are Pathfinder groups).

Straight away we saw the value of the website and it's a shame we never found it earlier but we are playing catchup. Two campaigns in which I am playing are transferring here from Google Wave and Google websites, so we are in a transition period just now moving data and adding new stuff from the most recent sessions:

Kingmaker Adventure Path
http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/derby-kingmakers/adventure-log

Council of Thieves Adventure Path
http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/oxcot

So far all has been pretty straightforward cut and paste and the tutorial for the html is easy to understand for a non-programmer. We do have two questions though we are still a bit unsure about where advice would be appreciated:

1. We are using a lot of Paizo copyright material, but see lots of others doing so too; and we know Paizo are reasonably liberal about this; BUT, is there anything we should do to ensure we are fulfilling any rules and regulations in this area?

2. For the NPCs the website is an excellent resource, but at a session we wouldn't normally have access to the internet and instead have a printed copy of the NPC list to hand. Once we have uploaded the NPCs to Obsidian Portal, is there an easy way of printing the details rather than individually printing each page?

There is so much interesting stuff here to look at and use - well done and hello!

J

    Hello and welcome aboard!

From what I understand, as long as you put a legal disclaimer stating that you're using it in good faith, and would take it down if requested, I think that there wouldn't be any issue - I'm not a lawyer, but last I knew, those companies were about people playing and enjoying the game - hard to do that if you crack down on the game they're enjoying! I don't know if there's an easy way of printing the details of each NPC, short of creating your own NPC sheet with the data in it. Maybe something to do with the new Export Campaign function?

    1. As long as you aren't selling anything from your campaign you should be fairly good to go as far as copyright, it's a good idea to still acknowledge the original holders, either on the page you use their material on, or in a catch all boilerplate on the front page. AKA "Fine Print" The general rule is don't misrepresent something or slander something/one.

    2. I don't know if a feature as such exists, you're welcome to request it in the Feature Request sticky, or do a wiki page with the details you wish to have and keep that updated.

Welcome to the Portal! Hope you enjoy your stay!

    Hello Fleanetha, and welcome aboard!

I too am running a couple of Pathfidner campaigns, one of which utilizes several of the older modules for Darkmoon Vale. In response to your first question, what you are looking for is Paizo's "Community Use Policy":http://paizo.com/communityuse. In a nutshell, Paizo does allow its community to use their copyrighted images, but they set some limitations on the sue of their property. They also ask that you furnish a specific disclaimer on your site (you can find this disclaimer at the above link, and I've also posted it in my "acknowledgments":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/tales-of-darkmoon-vale/wikis/acknowledgments page). Unfortunately I can't really help you on the second question; not really my area of expertise.

Anyway its great to have more Pathfinder representation here at the Portal. I wish you the best in getting your sites set up, and if you have any other questions feel free to ask. Oh, and one more thing. If you haven't already seen it yet, check out Chainsaw's "Help and Tips FAQ":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1114&page=1#Item_26, it's worth its weight in gold!

    Cheers,

Fleanetha, welcome to the Obsidian Portal. Of course, you posted this three hours ago, and in this community, three DMs have already done what they could to answer your questions to the best of their ability.

There isn't currently an unwieldy method of printing NPCs from OP. That feature actually sounds like it would be a great suggestion for submission on "this thread.":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=2&page=2#Item_12

Arsheesh, JimTriche, and Rase Cidraen are great guys. There are several others here as well that will help with any questions you may have, myself included. Anyway, have fun making the transition!

Hmm, I space out for a week or two on other projects, and there are all kinds of new people on here. Welcome to the OP, op.

Like gaaran said, it seems your initial questions have all been answered, and you've been pointed to Chainsaw's FAQ, sooo...I got nothing. If you have any other questions though, and I see them first, I'll do my best to help out.
