What books or websites do you guys recommend for somebody that has now idea how to use HTML or create code for his new Obsidian portal Website?

The things you guys do are amazing and I have no clue how to create buttons, import cool graphics, etc. Just been copying and pasting code and hoping for the best so far.

Any suggestions would help.

Well, I learned allot from Chainsaw's "Helps & Tips":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1114&page=1#Item_21 FAQ. I also spent allot of time at "this":http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp site attempting to make code. As for graphics work, I use "GIMP":http://www.gimp.org/, a free image manipulation program. However many others here use Photoshop. I made some free to use "navigation buttons":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/tales-of-darkmoon-vale/wikis/navigation-buttons which you can find here, but you can use the same Textile code to turn any graphics url into a button.

As far as creating your own graphics (e.g. buttons), I'd suggest either downloading GIMP, or if you have access to Photoshop, reading through the users manual and checking out some online tutorials on how to paint with these programs. I learned how to use GIMP by spending a couple of weeks plowing through the user's manual while working through some map tutorials that I found at the "Cartographers Guild":http://forum.cartographersguild.com/index.php?referrerid=15127 (which, by the way, is a great place to learn how to make your own fantasy map).

If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask.

    Cheers,

"This":http://redcloth.org/hobix.com/textile/ is my standard go-to reference for Textile formatting, mostly because I use a LOT of tables, and the table section for that particular site is more extensive than other online Textile references I've found.

Also, I knew very little html and no textile when I got rolling on my site last November. It's all about trial and error, experimentation and ample use of your favorite search engine.
