GM Fun / Brainstorming (Inspired by Obsidian Portal Facebook Post)
Obsidian Portal posted a very fun post on Facebook earlier:

Hilarious indeed, but I thought -- that's not really a bad idea!
So, can you come up with a ton of old 8-bit game plots to use in an RPG?
Bonus points if the players wouldn't figure it out.
Major bonus points if you use critters that look proper.
I imagine the post above could be done in D&D with Myconids, a Giant Lizardman, and a Wand of Missle shaped like a flower.
Let's see what we can do.

Mike over at Penny arcade ran a session based on Pokemon... A man asked the party to investigate a region full of a variety of strange creatures. He provided them with spherical pocket dimensions and asked the group to capture a sample of each species. However, before they could capture them, they would have to beat each creature to a point that it was unable to resist entrapment in the sphere.
hmm...
The characters are placed under a permanent ethereal effect, and trapped within a labyrinth. The only way to break their curse and escape is to chase down a beholder that is floating through the maze devouring gems. There are 4 pearls of power that will grant the beholder the ghost touch ability, at which time it will turn and attack the characters. If a character is killed, or if the beholder devours all the gems, the heroes reappear at the center of the maze and are forced to resume their pursuit once again.
OK,
A character given a Magical Shield +350, it is absolutely invulnerable, and the BBEG has a similar shield. There is a floating Sphere of Annihilation and the only safe way to touch it is this shield. You are on the border of his kingdom and yours. It's down to you two, because no attacks will penetrate your shields. He strikes the Sphere and sends it hurtling towards your Kingdom! You manage to run across and strike the Sphere before it gets near anything important, and send it back towards him even faster...
