Map Limitations

I am running a 4th ed. D&D campaign in the Forgotten Realms and although the map feature is nice, it isn't really helpful when the maps i need to show are far bigger than 500k will allow, and aren't square. If you could allow a map up to 2mb (which is about what the max php will generally allow for file transfers) and also have it not have to be a square, the map feature would indeed be useful. OR alternatively, allow for map graphics stored offsite (if possible).

They addressed this in another discussion "here":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1137&page=1#Item_14 . If you'd like to link actual images in your page, you can use something like flickr, photobucket, etc. like DiceMasterNick did on "his page":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/yggdrasil-saga/wikis/khorvaire . Of course, the image will be squeezed into the confines of the page, but most of the image codes you post come with a corresponding http: address to link it to the larger file so people can click and go to your (photobucket or whatever) to view the image fullsize.

Other than that, you can size down your maps using GIMP, Photoshop, or whatever image editing software you're comfortable with.

    Hope that helps! Enjoy OP!

Edit: I completely forgot that when you're editing a page, there is a little picture icon that allows you to upload images to the OP servers to access throughout your pages. Also, people have posted a picture into a page as a background image and set links over top of the key areas (as gnunn has done "here":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/the-westerlands/wikis/westerlands-map ).
