Many greetings from what today became the frigid north!
I'm DMLink1329 (and I prefer it that way), and I had heard about D&D for a couple of years but hadn't really gotten into it.
Then my birthday came along in the summer, and I was wondering how to entertain my friends (for I am not the life of the party, as they will tell you).
So I went to my local gaming store, purchased a starter set, the underdark tiles set, and a box of dice and never looked back (that's right, for my first 2 sessions I didn't have any manuals other than the quick-start ones).
I DMed a session the night of my birthday, and the party took to it pretty well. Now it's been more than four months since then, and I've hosted a few more games, developed a player roster, bought the core manuals, and attended one WOTC event.
Not a bad way to transition from those hot summer days to the icy depths of winter, I think.
Posts about the game will follow eventually.
