Unless something's changed (always a possibility I don't keep close tabs) I don't believe JPG will support transparency. Try a PNG with a transparent background and your green text.

On mine it's not a transparency, I actually applied a layer over the image in GIMP and merged it to give it that washed out look. The only transparent image on mine is the "X" PNG
