Your URL should be this http://api.obsidianportal.com/v1/campaigns/af7946b642a111e0bbb240403656340d/wikis.json Without the campaigns OP doesn't know if you are looking for a campagin, user or something else. Steve

Getting Started with the API

Here is a Ruby snippit from my commandline app. Maybe that will help you. The important bit is that once I have a request token, that token has an authorize_url. This is the url for the user to go to authorize your app to access their OP account. Be…

I don't know oauth-signpost and my java is rusty. What you have there looks OK, though. Do you hae MYKEY and MYSECRET correct? That seems the most likely culprit for a 401 error getting the request token. Steve

I've been working on a command line app. I have the user paste the authorization_url into their browser. After they authorize the app, they'll get a web page with the verification code on it.They can paste that into the app and they'll be good to go…

Getting Started with the API

So, I'm working with wiki pages and adventure log posts. I understand that they are really the same thing, but it would be nice to have the option to filter the wiki's api to just return an array of one or the other. /v1/campaigns/campagin_id/wik…

MIcah, You strategy seems sound. I will give my app a try today with the improved workflow and let you know how that goes. Steve

OK, I was able to get this to work, but I had to fake out Obsidian Portal. Here is my authorization code. The important thing to note is that there is nothing on localhost listening on port 8000. request_token = Configuration.client.consume…

I've played with this some more and no success. I think OP needs to return an oauth_verifier rather than the secret/token when I authorize a command line client as above. Tonight, I'm going to try to do the authorization as a web client then use …

Micah, I've done some more research. Here is the clearest twitter command line example I could find (from http://jumpstartlab.com/resources/ruby-jumpstart/jstwitter/). def setup_oauth consumer = OAuth::Consumer.new(@@credentials[:co…

Thanks for responding. I have that exact workflow working without any issue in my rails app. I'm confused on the implementation in a command line app. Here is my flow for the authorization step. Create consumer with application token and key Cre…

I've been working on my ruby command line tool to make an epub book out of the adventure logs for a campaign, but I'm stuck on authorization, which I can make work in a web app. Seems like a command line tool should be simpler. I've registered my ap…

I agree. I feel that either the mini-objects or the collections are "needed" the other is nice to have. I was proposing a couple different ways to avoid making N+1 requests to provide nice links to all of the players for a campaign. The mini-objects…

Good questions. The mini-object for the user looks great, adding the photo url is a good idea. The json for the mini object you showed is 194 characters, so I bet the time to transmit 5 of those is less than the cost of establishing the connection t…

I've got a question about the different between the user record and the campaign record. The user record includes partial information about the campaigns the user is part of. The campaign record, just has a list of player id's. I have to make separa…

Real life has slowed progress on MageHand, and looks like it will continue to do so for a couple more days so I wanted to post what progress there is. I expect the API to fall together pretty quickly once I get back to it. 1) Authentication works…

I found the problem. It wasn't the redirect URL, but I don't remember what it was -- all me anyway, sorry. Mage-hand fully supports not needing the full url in an API request now. I want to work on tests for the authentication part today, then I'll …

Well, I'm mid refactoring so I could have broken something too. Can you test what happens if there isn't a redirect url? I'm thinking that in that case, I should see the old screen that showed the key and secret for use in desktop clients.

I like the new authorization screen changes! However, both buttons take me a screen that says... "You have disallowed this request" If I go to /oauth_clients I see that a token was issued, so it seems to be a problem handling the redirect. …

Ahh, I found the documentation for :authorize_path, but I didn't find :authorize_url. I'll give that a try tonight. I'm going to have to think about the persistance issue. I was thinking that for simple apps, I might not even need a user record in m…

I've got two big issues right now. I'm not sure if they are on my end or yours, any thoughts are appreciated. 1. A new browser session requires a new authorization. I've had as many as 10 outstanding tokens issued to my app. I can revoke them man…

As far a privacy goes, I feel that anything I can find on the site, I should be able to get through the API. And anything I'm sharing publically, I am willing to have exposed through the API.
