The Ultimate Comedy Movie March Madness: Round 3-3 & 3-4 voting open!

What's the funniest movie of all time?

I'm not really a basketball person, but I do love comedy. So with a lot of input from online friends, I built "a mammoth 256-entry March Madness bracket":https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IJVs_KpLYlQ-fU08A8d2jlOn6CXJTwySETpuu27et1k/edit#gid=541452348 for comedy movies.

"Here's the first piece of Round 1.":https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K2SHS3S The rules are simple - in each head-to-head match up, pick the movie you think is funnier. The winner will move on, and the loser will be out of the competition. I'm going to leave each survey open for 48 hours before moving on to the next set. (I wanted to make each set longer, but I didn't want to give SurveyMonkey $300 just so I could include more than ten questions per survey.)

The first set of match-ups:

- The Great Dictator (1940) vs. My Little Chickadee (1940)

- The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) vs. A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)

- Father of the Bride (1950) vs. Funny Face (1947)

- Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) vs. Napoleon Dynamite (2004)

- Hatari! (1962) vs. The Nutty Professor (1963)

- A Mighty Wind (2003) vs. Evolution (2001)

- The Odd Couple (1968) vs. Our Man Flint (1966)

- Dogma (1999) vs. Meet the Parents (2000)

And don't worry, this isn't some kinda click-bait. It's totally anonymous and free. So go vote!

If A Million Ways to Die in the West wins any round, I am disgusted.

    Ha!

Matter of taste, I guess. My wife and I saw Million Says in the theater and absolutely loved it.

I know so much of so precious few...and even then I wouldn't call some of them "comedies" so much as "dramas or action movies with comedic moments".

But as you say, UTM: Matter of tastes. I only hope I know enough of them to make a proper vote.

No worries Mae, that's why I built in an option to skip a match-up if you didn't want to cast a vote for that one.

And if you want to see the bracket in its entirety, "it's right here for your perusal.":https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IJVs_KpLYlQ-fU08A8d2jlOn6CXJTwySETpuu27et1k/edit#gid=541452348

I just did the math. With only eight matches per set, if I do only one match every two days this'll take a REALLY long time. I don't want to spend that long on this (and I doubt you do, either).

    "*So here's round 1-2*":https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3RFRTB3

    - (1974) Blazing Saddles vs. (1972) The Heartbreak Kid

    - (1996) Cannibal: The Musical vs. (1996) Mars Attacks!

    - (1980) The Blues Brothers vs. (1977) The Kentucky Fried Movie

    - (1995) Tommy Boy vs. (1994) The Mask

    - (1981) Stripes vs. (1984) Police Academy

    - (1989) Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure vs. (1989) Uncle Buck

    - (1986) Ferris Bueller's Day Off vs. (1987) Amazon Women on the Moon

    - (1987) The Princess Bride vs. (1988) Earth Girls Are Easy

After this, I'll release two sets at a time. This'll get us the rest of the way through Round 1 in about two weeks.

    Go vote!

Some serious depth in this thread, going from 1940 to, I am guessing, 2014/2015?

If we go into musical clips, may I nominate "Rastafarian Targaryen":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrkguPkHmn4?

I've actually never seen _Mars Attacks!_ I need to try it again - the little bit I saw as a younger man didn't look appealing for some reason. But since I still haven't seen _Cannibal: The Musical_ either, I just skipped that vote altogether.

And we've got movies ranging all the way from 1921's _The Kid_ to 2016's _Deadpool_ in the mix.

No worries twigs, Holy Grail just hasn't had its match-up yet. "It's the #1 seed in Bracket 5.":https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IJVs_KpLYlQ-fU08A8d2jlOn6CXJTwySETpuu27et1k/edit#gid=541452348 Which, incidentally, is probably going to be the single toughest bracket in the entire tourney. Holy Grail, Young Frankenstein AND Blazing Saddles!? Who the hell made this screwy thing, anyway??

I look forward to seeing the results. No surprises in the previous sections.

I kinda feel really bad for *The Other Woman* - it's a genuinely hilarious movie, but it ain't got a prayer against *Deadpool*...

The overall list was sorted by year, then alphabetically, and broken into 16-movie groups. The seeding for each bracket was based on the movies' ratings on IMDb.com. In the event of a tie, the lower-seeded movie will advance. It had a harder challenge to overcome to achieve the tie (in theory, anyway).

And yeah, I've heard rumblings about a Mallrats 2. I doubt they'll get Affleck back into Fashionable Men, but I'd think the rest of the cast should be up for it.

Although after seeing Clerks 2, I'm not sure this is a good thing. ;-)
