Private Campaign Forums

So here to request a feature that I think could help a lot of games. In my L5R game I have a lot of player secrets for each character and player. In addition sometimes my players want to do things that other characters would not approve of and would like to keep it a secret. The problem is that these actions are done over skype, private notes passed, private talks outside of game, etc. and it is hard to keep track of all of them. Because of this I was hoping to have a way to create "private forums" within the campaign forums that only allow the GM and a specific player(s) to see in order to archive all the private little secrets.

Would be clunky, but you could make a page for each player, title it Player A secret, and copy/paste all of the secrets into the Player/GM secret section.

Killer: yeah I could but I wanted both the GM (me) and my players to be able to add stuff to it easily and have it cataloged. I guess a private page would work but as you would say it would be "clunky".....

Really you could just create one "Secrets" page and have a private section for each player - they should be able to view/edit their sections individually, I think. Just as clunky, but at least its all in one place.

That said, another site dedicated to PbP I once used had a "secret text" functionality that would let you post text only visible to specific players, and it was super useful. So +1 to the general sentiment of this feature request.

I asked for this back when the Reforging was just beginning. I'll thumbs up a vote for this one again. It would be great to have a tool like this.

So I am necroing this old thread of mine to see if this could be a thing implemented in future updates. Any chance of this being a thing @Kallak?

Just wanted to let you know that we do have "private campaign forums" on the list of potential features to implement.  I can't say when they'll make it to the top of the priority list, but they're on there.

    They were also mentioned here:

    https://forums.obsidianportal.com/discussion/5489/player-s-journal

We've been focusing on Player related features lately, so the idea that Players could create a thread that the GM can't see to discuss plans and such actually gives this feature a leg up in priority at the moment.  But again, nothing definite.  I don't like to say anything is going to happen until it's actually already done and live.

I know this was a necro'd thread, but...

    @JaymesBolton, @killervp, @Basileus, @Viehmagnat

I'm not promising anything, but IF a beta version of this "private campaign forums" feature was developed, which of you would be interested in being a beta user of the feature?

It increases the likelihood that we will work on a feature if we already have users that have agreed to use it and test it.

The initial version would likely be just the ability for a thread author to choose which Campaign Members will be able to see that thread from a check list similar to the Notifications under the reply window.  And then the Notifications on that particular thread would only show the logins that were allowed to see the thread.  And that thread wouldn't show up at all for the other Campaign Members.  Note that this would also thus be the ability for Players to create threads that the GM would not be able to see so they could discuss plans and suspicions without tipping off the GM.

Feel free to say if that "initial version" is not enough to get you to use it, so we can get specific about what is needed to fulfill this request.  Though the bigger a feature has to be to be used, the more risky it is for us to put work into because it might end up not being used and have been a waste of time.  So the bigger a feature is the less likely we'll work on it...or rather the more interest we need from the users before we'll work on it.

Again, I'm not promising anything, just looking to gauge real interest here.  I don't like to say something is going to happen until it's actually live because I wouldn't want anyone to think they were getting something and then be disappointed.

    Thanks,

    thaen/Aleks

@thaen I would be interested. Just started a new campaign with heavy intrigue so it would be useful. What would need me to do?

@JaymesBolton, cool!  There's nothing to do yet since the feature doesn't exist yet.  But IF we created the feature, then we would just need you to try it out and let us know if you found any bugs.
