Map system annoyance venting

So I am simply venting my frustration with the Obsidian Portal map page for campaigns because it could be so awesome but it isn't and im wondering if any changes are being planned. What I would love to see is much bigger map sizes aloud (like 11mb) and any shape aloud (rectangle) and markers with location names that you can place on the map as the DM which link to a wiki page. This would make large sandbox campaigns incredibly easier to manage. Sharing thoughts as I try to organize a huge map of the ancient Mediterranean for my newly started Ancient Greek campaign.

    Hey TW

I'm sure many of us wait patiently for such things. If I remember rightly, new markers IS part of the plan. Different shapes would be a good thing too. I can make do with the present limitations for now but I agree that MAPS could certainly do with improving - they are so important to any campaign.

Having maps is great. I'm surprised there is still a requirement that they be square, however. Why is that?

I can't get map markers to work. See my "bug report":http://help.obsidianportal.com/discussions/problems/13650-map-marker

The icons are nice but I would love to also just get the old 'stick pin' and color option back.

Strange- I can add markers just fine. They show up in the middle of the map, and then you move them to the proper spot.

    Just trying to help out.

I and my players are unable to see the map markers unless we are signed in. Furthermore, when I try to fiddle with the settings in the hopes of changing it... it reverts back to the old settings after I save it.

I just updated the bug I reported to state that I don't have a problem with this anymore.

Lol now I'm having bluesguy's problem. I just added a new map and after punching up a marker and a writeup it won't save the marker and drop it. Really aggravating.

Yeah only allowing a square shape map makes the map feature essentially useless to me.

The team is interested in making maps be way more immersive. A recent change was made to change the compression behavior, as a first step toward allowing for retina compatible / higher resolution maps. If their are aspect ratio issues or limitations on maps please file a ticket and the team will most certainly investigate and take steps to make all that better.

I'm having the same problem blueguy reported. I can't add new map markers. I can edit the one that's there, but when I hit save for a new map marker nothing happens.

Have you tried a different color? I thought the save issue only affected the black map markers.

Yeah, I did change the color and after a few tries it worked. Then I was able to edit it to black. Odd sort of glitch that.

Could you clarify the map marker issue? Is it that the color creates a visibility issue against some map backgrounds?

For me, when I tried using a black map marker, nothing would happen when I hit "save." The "Add Marker" pop-up just stayed on screen and did nothing. I change it to green or any other color and it works, placing the marker as normal--which I can then edit to black. I just tested it. Same thing. Won't place initially as black but will let me edit to black.

We have reproduced the issue on our side and have it captured. Thank you for the report.

Would it be possible for visitors (i.e. not signed in) to see the map markers please? I'm using them as kind af a storytelling tool.

So where are we on this issue, as it was one of the goals for the Kickstarter?
