I wanted to atleast introduce myself. I am Yoshara and I am a fairly new DM, and when I mean fairly new I mean about 6 months into my first 3.5 campaign. I have been playing 3.5 for about 6 years, about 1 year ago picked up 4.0 but just couldn't get into it so of course stepped back to 3.5 and began DMing. I am currently DMing one 3.5 game and I am a player of a Pathfinder game. I find Pathfinder to be fun and I have to say I feel it is a great medium between 3.5 and 4.0. Of course this is my first game and we have only had 2 sessions so my views on Pathfinder could change and I'm not saying its perfect, nothing is perfect...thats what house rules are for! lol

As a player I have two modes, Power Gaming and Roleplay. I am horrible at mixing the two. I believe the best base class is Cleric and of course I don't mind being a healer. I find a challenge in being a healer and also being versatile. I feel that a cleric's best trait is being versatile with their domains. I prefer playing in Forgotten Realms over any other setting, I don't know why but Faerun is just my type of world. I don't like any tech in the worlds.

But I believe that is a good but brief layout of my preferences in D&D and Roleplaying games in general.

I went ahead and got the Ascendant level of the site, just looking over it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when I think of the things I can do with these tools. To the Mods/Devs/Web Designers - Awesome work, keep it up. You can have my 5$ a month for the work you do. Well worth it in my book.

I did have one quick question that could probably be answered by one of the more seasoned Obsidian Portal members -

I am running a Faerunian campaign so with that, what is the rule of using pictures/maps/information from the Forgotten Realms and 3.5 books on this website? I don't want to get anyone in trouble due to copyrights and such and I couldn't find too much on this in the forums. Though I searched for it briefly (10 mins or so).

I am glad to be apart of this community and look to learn a lot from all of you.

Welcome to the Portal Yoshara, and to DMing as well! Like yourself I am a fan of 3.5/Pathfinder (not having enjoyed my brief excursion into 4e). Also outside of Middle Earth Faerun is, in my opinion, the most well thought out and impressive world out there (though I've got to say, Golarion is up there as well). When you've got your site together you should throw up a link so that others can view you site and offer constructive feedback.

As to your question, images published by game companies are generally under the copyright of those companies. Hence, the commercial use of these images is considered copyright infringement and constitutes a direct violation of these companies (and the artists) intellectual property rights. However, it is slightly less clear whether private use of such images on a non-commercial site is considered copyright infringement, or is covered under "Fair Use":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use#Fair_use_on_the_Internet in Trademark law. Some companies have opted to allow their clients limited use of their copyrighted images (see for instance Paizo's "Community Use Policy":http://paizo.com/communityuse), others have not (see "this":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1478&page=1#Item_11 thread). Based on the vagueness of this issue, some, myself included, have opted to use images but try (as best we can) to credit the artists and companies who hold the copyrights to those images (for instance, check out my "Acknowledgments":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/age-of-legends/wikis/acknowledgments page). I have contacted a few artists directly and asked if they would allow me to use their work. At any rate, I'm not sure that I answered your question, but I hope this at least somewhat helpful.

    Cheers,

You answered my question very well actually. So far its vague but there is not true written rule within Obsidian Portal. I planned to credit all the works to their original authors on each individual page but an Acknowledgments page is an excellent idea. Thank you for the quick response as well, so far I am loving the community and hope to contribute to it in the future as well.

Well I did some random forum searching, just clicking threads that sounded beneficial and full of information and I have to say...Wow! There is a lot of information here and help and all kinds of stuff. I think I definantly will use some of this to make my new campaign which is a loosely based D20 modern, mostly custom rules as a straight zombie campaign.

Arsheesh, you wanted me to post my campaign, I will have to make my current running campaign public viewing. Here are the links to both.

    "The Great Acension":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/thecampaign

    "The Lumbering Dead":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/the-lumbering-dead

Both campaigns are in major work on the site, The Lumbering Dead is in major work to actually be a playable game.

I want to echo twiggyleaf's greetings and warm wishes. I don't know how I missed this post, but I'm glad he resurrected it.

Also, you're playing in Rase's campaign right? How's that going?
