Hey everybody, I just started a new Aberrant game, and I need players, because I can't play by myself. Aberrant is really easy and really fun, and is great for people new to RPGs. You get to be superheroes! Yay!

I am willing and able to teach new players and show them the ropes, but experienced players are welcome and appreciated, too!

The game is Post by Post, and is located at http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/aberrant-insanity There's more information there, too.

Once there are a few heroes (and villains, villains are welcome, too), you can expect the game to progress like a comic book, with teams, gadgets, mutants, diabolical plots, explosions, and Who knows what else?

Information:
I will be using maptools and ventrillo server in order to run the game. It will be one night during the week 7:30-10:30-11:00 EST. I am looking for mature players (21+) to play. I run a very realistic type game and I don't do well with meta gamers who think all you need is an 18 in every stat and that makes a character. This arc will take players from 1-30 ( I hope). Intrested people may e-mail me @ lrdpanther@yahoo.com with questions or intrest.

Hello everyone!

I want to preface my introduction with an acknowledgement to the staff of Obsidian Portal that if I cross any lines, step on any toes or otherwise violate the rules and regulations of Obsidian Portal Forums in any way that my posts may be removed without warning.

Now, with that done: My name is Frank, and I am from the Ottawa, Ontario area! I've been playing games (table-top, strategy, miniature, Live-Action and all things in between) for almost twenty years now, and I have no intention on stopping any time soon. I do want to clarify and say that - contrary to the forum name I have picked for myself - I am *not* an admin to the site. The name was picked as a moniker to represent the Game Master of the game that I have created. *_The Hunt RPG_* is a new, diceless role-playing game that is now in its final stages of beta testing, and I intend on hitting up several conventions this and next year. Of them all, I am hoping to attend GenCon next year, but that convention is but a dream at this point.

This particular game is, as stated, diceless, and it pits normal humans up against the denizens of the night. Vampires, ghosts, werewolves ... all sorts of things that go bump in the night face off against the resourcefulness of you, the player, and the friends that make up your crew. I've always found that role-playing a game felt much more satisfying than tossing the dice. Of course there is a time and a place for that - I wouldn't be here if it weren't for some casual casting of the bones - but when two or more players are engaged in a heated discussion, or the players are encountering a particular harrowing situation, nothing ruins the moment than when rolling dice. Sometimes the feeling is lost and can't be picked back up again. That's why I created this game as 'diceless'.

Also as a unique feature of this game is the lack of 'setting'. Although I might notate a few NPC's at the end for easy reference, there is no setting at all. This makes it easier to manipulate to the whims of the Admin (aka the Game Master). If you want a Lovecraftian Steampunk setting? Go for it. Modern-age chivalry campaign? Done. Post-apocalyptic zombie-fest? have at 'er. Hell, even if you wanted to - for one reason or another - create an Ice Age game, there is nothing stopping you except your imagination. And maybe the players. But that's it!

There is a question that often comes to me that I would like to address:

bq. But Frank! How can you possibly resolve anything without dice?!

And I'm glad you asked, anonymous individual. Through game play, the Admin takes a number of factors into mind and asks the players to quickly rhyme off their particular statistics or _Ranks_ in a skill (alternatively, the Admin could just take a copy of their character sheet and compare the numbers in his head) and determines whether the player should succeed or fail. Of course, there are contributing factors to think about, like the description of the intent and the difficulty of the task.

bq. But what about combat? Surely you need randomization in something like this, right?

When designing combat, I had to have something that would add randomness into the equation. The first Alpha Testing had our PC's attack each other, and if someone's attack wasn't nearly as good as the defender's ... well, defence, there was no way in hell that the attacker would ever hit. So I had to add in some features. *_Fatigue Points_* were added to simulate how tired one gets during combat, or how much someone could push themselves under stress, and one could spend these *_FP's_* for extra things like 'Extra Damage' or 'Extra Defence'. All in all, it comes down to a game of poker, where you lay out a few cards with your intended actions, with those cards adding to the appropriate score. Of course, you could always Bluff, as well.

Although the core game is pretty much done, I'm also working on a follow-up to the main book. Things that I wanted to put into the game, but didn't fit the 'feel' of the core rules. I do have to say, though, that I have a better understanding of some gaming companies and the need for supplements. Ugh ...

Nonetheless, that's my game in a nutshell. (Ever since seeing 'Austin Powers', I could never think of that saying ('in a nutshell') the same again, but I digress.) I just want to thank you for reading this and putting up with my ramblings! I'm very excited about this project and wanted to share it with my fellow gamers!

Thanks again!
~ Frank

I'm looking for a couple more players to start a Pathfinder game in which the PCs are goblins trying to survive and grow powerful in the wilderness. The game is an old-school hex crawl. There are complete details here:
http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/goblin-uprising

I have three players so far (all professionals in their 20s and 30s, with varying levels of RPG experience), and need 1-3 more. We'll likely play every other week, on a weekend evening or maybe Thursday or Friday night. I live in Woodinville, WA, and will host the game at my house by default, though we may pick a more central location if that's more convenient for everyone. We'll pick an exact time and place once the player roster is finalized.

If you have old-school sensibilities (or just want to try it), and this looks like fun, let me know and we can arrange to get together to get to know each other and discuss further.

This week I decided to take the leap and create a campaign portal here for my ongoing Call of Cthulhu game. That was a snap! I added some text to the homepage, some NPC's, and all was going well.
Then I started looking at what VERY cool things other GM's had done with their portals, and I had to have a nice background image...

And now I have a project; I'm on a mission to improve my portal little by little. Your community is extremely helpful and encouraging (and are willing to answer a lot of questions), and it's a pleasure to be here! Thanks for making this a warm place and I expect that my players will be thrilled as time goes on.

Hello, friendly denizens of Obsidian Portal,

I finally decided to do the smart thing and use Obsidian Portal to organize my notes and setting information for a campaign I plan on running online. I was lucky enough to run across arsheesh's HTML templates before I got too far and decided I would try to spiffy up my campaign a bit.

Before I start transferring content over, I'd like to get the layout and customization finalized (so I don't have to go back and edit every page after the fact), so at the moment the wiki is utterly devoid of content. That said, I was wondering if anyone would care to give their opinion on the layout and presentation. My initial concept was to present as an old scroll or tome of some sort, read by candlelight, with links and buttons as glowing arcane inscriptions - something with lots of texture and high contrast between dark and light.

However, I'm worried I went off the deep end and created some sort of unreadable abomination (light text on dark backgrounds is always dangerous, and I'm worried that "textured" may have become "cluttered"). I'm also curious to know if it even displays properly on other browsers and computers than my own, and what load times are like. I do plan to keep the actual pages fairly clean and ordered, with minimal images embedded, but any suggestions on the existing background and navigation bars?

Here's my home page (currently functioning as little more than a teaser): "Darkest Night":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/darkest-night-d20

Thanks in advance for any tips or opinions,
Gaaran (that rogue!) has already discovered this, but I wanted to officially announce "Gaming Music: A resource for GMs":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/gaming-music. I wanted to expand my Music Reviews page, and when I realized that the use of tags would be so incredibly helpful in letting users filter or serch for specific moods or sounds I decided to make this its own campaign.

It's still a little bare, I just started last night. But I wanted to get some feedback from you guys to see what you thought about this. I'm no master at professional layouts like some of you guys, but I think it is pretty easy to navigate and not too bad on the eyes. On my main wiki page I have short blurbs about various albums with links to a page for that album. On that page there is a picture of the album cover, a link to Amazon where it can be purchased or MORE IMPORTANTLY users can check out samples of what it sounds like, and a more detailed description of the album.

I have TONS more music to put up and am open and looking for suggestions about anything: music, layout, funcationality of the site, hygene (you jerk! j.k.), etc...
With the release of the D&D Next playtest rules, my crew and I began a new campaign using an old school adventure: The Temple of Elemental Evil. We had an 8-hour session on Sunday; the longest any of us have played in years, and the most fun we've had in just as long.

I've begun chronicling our campaign on this site, of course, and would love to invite folks to check it out. While it doesn't have any super fancy graphic design or exciting HTML layout like many campaign of the month candidates, it is very clean and easy to read. I hope you like it:

I am starting a new RM high fantasy(expect dragons and flying ships) campaign that will be played using Google+ Hangout with the Tabletop forge app.

The idea is to create a sandbox world where you will be free to choose almost any race and class you want. Rule nr1. is to have fun so we will take the hero approach to your character creation where the players are the heros of the story and will be better than a normal character would be.

The sessions will be played 1 time pr week in the evening of the central European time zone or possibly sunday afternoon if we get a lot of Us and other non Europeans joining.

The game system is Rolemaster Fantasy Role Playing RMFRP (RM third edition) simply because that's what I am used to playing and that’s the system all my sourcebooks are using.

Hello, guys (and gals)!

My name is Sanguinous Rex, and I am the Dread Lord (my RP title) of an online MMORPG gaming community known as Pax Gaming (www.paxgaming.com). I have been a huge fan of tabletop RPG's since I was a kid - my first experience was GMing a crazy little game called Paranoia in 6th grade! I always found myself on the "DM/GM" stick throughout most of my gaming life all the way through high school. After high school I stopped playing, partially because I was both tired of finding gamers to play and also having to run the damn things lol

I missed out on gaming for over a decade (with the exception of a single AD&D 3rd Edition game that ran out of steam fast after one of the players had a major blowout) until last year when I met some new friends through an old friend and experienced AD&D 4th Edition for the first time. As a system it's far from perfect but it was a lot of fun - especially since I was finally a PLAYER! I created an awesome character and we played a steady game once a week.

Even though I had thought that I would remain happy in player-bliss, my "creative juices" began to flow again and I started world building. I didn't have a desire to play 4th Edition because I am less technical and more "RP" oriented and I knew I would get lost in the tactical wargame that is 4th Edition combat. But I found out about 5th Edition and got very excited. I continued to work on my world and decided that 5th Edition would be my stomping grounds.

However, several people in my online gaming community shared my interest in tabletop roleplaying games and after discovering the Obsidian Portal I decided it was time to finally start. With 5th Edition still a year away, I decided to go OLD SCHOOL. The campaign is being run under AD&D 1st Edition, with a modified skill system designed by me. What an awesome system and so much easier then 4th Edition ;)

So the campaign might continue under 1st edition indefinitely OR once 5th Edition gets released we will be switching to that. Not sure yet.

Anyway, just saying heya from one tabletop gamer to another! Oh, and is anyone else excited/interested in D&D Next (5th Edition)?

Well, I've been lurking around here for some time now, and working dillegently on the sit for my upcoming Dresden Files RPG Campaign
"Shadows Over New York":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/shadows-over-new-york so I figured it was time to say hi.

The campaign uses the Dresden Files RPG, and is obviously based in NYC. As of this posting, MOST of the locations have been posted, though some are still forthcoming. It also introduces templates based on other sources similar to the Dresden Files or to NYC.

I have to thank Wolfhound and KillerVP for their help. The site draws heavily on Wolfhound's tutorials, and I would have been lost without them.

Peace and Long Life,

I've been working to develop my campaign to the point where I can consider seeking publishing it. Right now, I'm in the midst of rebooting the campaign, and I'm wondering if there are any DM's out there, searching for some content or something different that would like to utilize the information I have on the wiki to run their own campaign, and provide feedback from the DM and the party as to the content, playability, etc. If you have a group that is interested, or want to be part of a play testing party for my group, please let me know.

Welcome to *FreeTrader: Maverick*, a Traveller play-by-post campaign that focuses on engaging story-telling with the direction of the story determined by where the players want to go. The universe is huge and there are no limits to the opportunities, directions, destiations or dangers contained among the stars.

The campaign will be based on Mongoose Traveller books (although players can use Classic Traveller 1-8 books).

Basics:
* Looking for players that have the desire to return Traveller to its raw roots of openness and adventure (the universe is dangerous and exciting so the game should be too)
* Looking for 4-6 adult players
* GM will post adventure log updates every 1 or 2 days.
* Players are expected to post at least 4 days a week (ideally more--- the game pacing and speed will be determined by the frequency of player posts)
* Players are expected to roleplay in addition to utilizing their skills etc. -- together we are creating a story.
* Mature players desired
* Honor system on rolling
* House rules will be used (together we can set them-- but I have a number that I use)
* Please send me a message with a paragraph or two about your gaming experience and interest in an open-end Traveller Campaign.

Looking for a very fun RP

Hello Ryghamoc here,

I have some experience in free form role-playing but it is nothing so serious as actually having the chance to play a game campaign as a player. I enjoy a variety of RP games but favor different, intricate and unique scenarios such as a post apocalyptic universe (The Reclamation rpg or the Spinespur miniatures game as examples), dystopian setting (Paranoia rpg for example [Though preferred with a more serious feel]), modern fantasy role-play (World of Darkness for example), dark fantasy worlds (Age of Conan an example), and other unique and usually used settings, such as mythpunk, splatterpunk, and an assortment of various genres.

I find it would be a refreshing chance for me to immerse myself in role-playing experience not just to take a breather from the usual games and television I see day to day but also in order to bring myself some fresh new inspiration in my writing as well as to learn game mechanics to help with ideas and creative uses.

I hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks again ^^

Hey there. My name is Jesse, with the online handle of Turncoat (Don't worry, I'm actually very loyal!) I am 22 years old, Canadian, and a longtime Dungeon Master. I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons ever since I was 10, when a friend was given the 3rd Edition Starter Kit, and we proceeded to spend an entire trip playing the game. Over my years as a DM, I have sunk more hours than I care to mention into a setting that has evolved into something (that I very much hope is) unique.

I am a writer and theatre junkie, and am just now entering university. I bartend on the side, and I am a great believer in the amazing power of liquor.

Ever since discovering Obsidian Portal I have been in love with its features, and am fighting a battle to get my players more involved with the online aspect of our campaign. It's not easy.

Hello! I'm in the Philippines with a ton of free time on my hands, and I'm looking for some gaming! I've been playing online for a while now. I've played a reasonable breadth of systems, notably 4E and Savage Worlds (both of which I love), Star Wars Saga (which I don't so much), and a bunch of little narrative-style indie games. I DON'T have any experience with some of the big names, like Pathfinder, but hey, I learn fast! I've been kind of clumsily GMing a little campaign in Deadlands: Reloaded, but I'm not really looking to run another campaign just yet.

I like stories that are heavy on character development, but that don't take themselves too seriously. I like to have fun, and so do my characters. I play characters who will do awesome things, fist-pump, and relive the best moments over a beer later. I prefer the heroic to the edgy, and although I like a good post-apocalyptic scenario as much as the next gamer, I sometimes wonder when we're going to be over dystopias.

I'm hoping to get familiar with the faces around here, so if your roleplaying philosophy sounds like mine, I'd actually love to hear from you even if you're not running a game or looking for players or anything.
